Notes from the landowner

Lost Creek Ridge offers 116 acres of private black bear hunting in Kentucky Bear Zone 2, in the Ned and Lost Creek area of Breathitt County. It is a chance to hunt bears on private ground in the steep, timbered mountains of eastern Kentucky, a short drive from Hazard.
The property is Appalachian ridge and hollow country: hardwood slopes, benches, and drainages that give bears cover and travel routes as they feed through the fall. Hunting the benches and watching the drainages and hollow heads puts you where a bear is most likely to move through.
Only one party of up to two hunters is on the property at a time. The acreage covers two tracts of 98 and 18 acres, each with a designated parking spot. ATVs are permitted on approved routes and may be used to retrieve a bear, which is a big help in this terrain. Kentucky does not allow baiting bears, so this is a true still hunt or stand hunt.
Bear permits are sold over the counter, with no draw. Zone 2 seasons run on fixed dates with no harvest quota, so your season will not close early. Kentucky offers a short archery and crossbow season in late October and a firearm season in December, with a limit of one bear per hunter per license year. Hunts run three days, priced per hunter, with lodging in Hazard.

Game and habitat information

Black bears range across the forested counties of eastern Kentucky, and Breathitt County sits inside Bear Zone 2. Steep hardwood slopes, benches, and drainages give bears cover and natural travel lanes.
Fall is when bears feed hardest ahead of winter, so the slopes and benches where they move between cover and food are the places to focus. One party at a time keeps the property quiet for the short bear windows.

Harvest Report

After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year’s harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country.

Current Season

Kentucky Bear Zone 2 has a five day archery and crossbow season starting on the fourth Saturday in October and a firearm season in mid December. Seasons run on fixed dates with no harvest quota.
Check current season dates and regulations at http://fw.ky.gov
