Notes from the landowner

This listing offers DIY bull elk hunting on roughly 6,400 acres of private land in Area 129, just north of Buffalo Wyoming. Please note that this listing is for bull elk only - we are committed to keeping the cow population healthy and growing. Keeping harvest pressure on bulls only is how we intend to keep the elk population stable and the hunting consistent on this ranch for years to come.

A unique aspect of our ranch is the access - because we share private roads with neighboring properties, all access in and out of the ranch must be accompanied by us. After you book, we will reach out directly and formulate a game plan to meet. Once on the property, it is our preference that you camp on site for the duration of the hunt to avoid daily trips in and out. There are plenty of quality spots to set up camp, and good enough roads to haul in a camper - though there are no camper hookups, so you'll want to bring your own water and plenty of it.

There are several ranch roads throughout the property that make it easy to move from one end to the other, but all hunting here is done on foot. We ask that you stick to existing paths and roads, as off-roading is not permitted. We do border just under 6,000 acres of BLM and Wyoming State ground that is otherwise inaccessible without permission through private property. That means hunting pressure around here is very minimal! The Infinite Outdoors app offers public land layers that you can turn on to see where our land stops and the public begins. Buffalo is only a few miles down the road if there are any emergencies or needs during your hunt. Here in Area 129, resident hunters can pick up a general tag over the counter. Non-resident hunters fall under Region E, so be sure to check the current Wyoming Game and Fish regulations for tag availability and any applicable preference point requirements.

Game and habitat information

Elk country is exactly what this ranch delivers. The property rolls through a mix of open grassland, broken draws, and sagebrush flats - the kind of terrain that elk love to bed, feed, and move through. Water is well distributed across the property with several stock tanks and natural watering holes that see consistent traffic throughout the season. Several neighboring properties have large hay meadows that the elk in this area bounce back and forth to regularly, and this ranch sits right in the middle of that travel corridor. Historically, elk numbers on this property build through early September and really come alive by mid-month. Once they're here, they tend to stay through the remainder of the season - and that mid-September timing puts hunters right in the thick of the rut, with bulls on their feet and willing to talk. Wyoming's statewide elk herd is estimated at around 109,000 animals, and the population in this region reflects that trend. Bulls harvested in Area 129 in recent years have consistently come in at the 320"+ class, with many ranging from 340" to 370". The combination of low hunting pressure, quality habitat, and a healthy regional herd makes this a legitimate trophy opportunity for any elk hunter.
