Notes from the landowner

Dale Branch Creek is a 20-acre private hunting property just south of Scooba in Kemper County, Mississippi, tucked inside a large block of mixed pine and hardwood timber. The creek winds straight through the property, creating a natural travel corridor that wildlife use to move through the surrounding woods. With only one hunter or party booked at a time, you will have the creek bottom and the timber around it all to yourself.

Archery season opens October 1, and this is when deer are moving on their most predictable fall patterns. As the oaks and hickories start dropping mast, deer work the creek corridor between bedding cover and food, putting them right where a bowhunter wants them. The creek and the edges where pine meets hardwood create natural funnels to hang a stand or set a ground blind within bow range.

Archery season is either-sex on private land, so you can hold out for a mature buck or fill the freezer with a doe. Mississippi’s private land limits in the Hills Unit allow up to 3 bucks and 5 antlerless deer per season, and bucks must meet the unit’s minimum antler requirements.

Game and habitat information

This property sits in the southern mixed oak-pine forest of east Mississippi. Loblolly and shortleaf pine cover the higher ground and give deer thick bedding and security cover, while oaks and hickories grow on the richer soils. Dale Branch Creek ties it all together, giving deer a natural route to travel between cover and food. When the hardwoods drop acorns and hickory nuts in the fall, deer key in on that mast. Focus your setups where the pine uplands meet the hardwood creek bottom, and on trails that parallel or cross the creek. Deer numbers are high across this area, and the surrounding timber means animals are moving onto and through the property throughout the season.

Harvest Reports

After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties - and continue to put conservation at the forefront - we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year's harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country.
