Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Rainbow TroutJust a short drive from Steamboat Springs, this property sits in a stunning Park Range valley where the Little Snake River and Battle Creek converge. Anglers will enjoy access to 1.5 miles of the Little Snake River and 0.25 miles of Battle Creek, both of which are a short and easy walk from the parking area. The walk-in route follows Battle Creek to the confluence, where anglers can choose to fish upstream or downstream on the Little Snake.
Battle Creek has undergone extensive restoration, including bank stabilization, riparian fencing, and habitat improvements all of which have elevated this fishery into something truly special. Despite its smaller size, Battle Creek holds surprisingly strong fish. Many anglers assume it’s 3-weight water, but due to the size and strength of the trout in both systems, a 5- or even 6-weight rod is recommended. Camping is permitted on-site, making this property an excellent multi-day fishing destination.
This property offers a rare opportunity to fish two unique systems in one breathtaking setting. The Little Snake River is the largest tributary of the Yampa River, originating near the Continental Divide and winding its way through high mountain valleys. Here, it flows through a wide, cottonwood-covered corridor, offering diverse structure with long runs, deep pockets, and a mix of gradual and elevated banks ideal for both wading and sight fishing. This section fishes well with dry flies, nymphs, and streamers alike, and lends itself to a stealthy approach for rising fish in slower runs.
Battle Creek, though smaller in size, has been transformed into a robust fishery through dedicated habitat restoration. It features clean flows, improved banks, and excellent holding water for trout. The restoration work has created the kind of healthy stream ecosystem that supports both high catch rates and quality fish.
Whether you're chasing trout on the bigger water of the Little Snake or exploring the tighter structure of Battle Creek, this property provides exceptional diversity in water type, technique, and scenery all within a short walk and well worth an extended stay.

What a great out of the way fishery. There are some very large fish. Water level is getting low and water temps are rising.
