Notes from the landowner

Lost Creek Ridge puts you on 116 acres of private modern gun deer hunting during Kentucky's November firearm season, in the Ned and Lost Creek area of Breathitt County. The property sits in Deer Zone 4 in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, a short drive from Hazard.
The November gun season lands during the rut, when bucks are on their feet and covering ground. On this ridge and hollow property, that movement follows the terrain: benches along the timbered slopes, drainages running down to the hollows, and the ridgelines between them. Set up where the contours pinch together and you can cover a lot of ground from one spot once the leaves are down.
Only one party of up to two hunters is on the property at a time, which matters during the busiest stretch of the Kentucky deer season. The 116 acres come in two tracts of 98 and 18 acres, each with a designated parking spot. ATVs are allowed on approved routes and can be used to retrieve your deer. Bring a portable stand or blind if you like; just take it with you when the hunt ends.
Deer permits are sold over the counter with no draw. Hunts run four days at a per-hunter price. In Zone 4, modern gun season is for antlered deer only, so plan on a buck hunt. Lodging and food are available in Hazard.

Game and habitat information

The eastern Kentucky mountains are steep hardwood country, and by the November gun season the leaves are down and sight lines open up across the slopes and benches.
Rutting bucks cruise the drainages and bench edges looking for does, and the steep terrain concentrates that movement into predictable routes. With a single party on the property, deer here are not pressured by other groups on the same ground.

Harvest Report

After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year’s harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country.

Current Season

Kentucky's modern gun deer season runs for about two weeks in mid to late November, overlapping the peak of the rut.

Check current season dates and regulations at http://fw.ky.gov

License and Application

No draw required. You will need a Kentucky hunting license and a statewide deer permit, both sold over the counter at fw.ky.gov or through a license vendor. Nonresidents are welcome.
Kentucky allows one antlered deer per hunter statewide each season. Breathitt County is in Deer Zone 4, where the season limit is two deer and only one may be antlerless. In Zone 4, antlerless deer may not be taken during the early muzzleloader season or the first six days of the late muzzleloader season. Confirm current zone rules at fw.ky.gov.

Draw Odds

No draw. Statewide deer permits are sold over the counter in Kentucky, so you can book your dates and plan your trip with certainty.

Property Availability

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
