Deer River Gateway offers private spring and fall turkey hunting on 109 acres in the Town of Brasher, St. Lawrence County, New York, in WMU 6A. The property sits just outside Brasher Falls in the North Country, and turkeys are a regular sight here.
Old-field openings meet hardwood edge, and the property shares a boundary with roughly 20,000 acres of Brasher State Forest. In May, gobblers sound off from the timber and strut in the openings at first light. In October, family flocks feed through the same openings and along the edges, with four apple trees dropping fruit right as the fall season opens.
Only one group of up to four hunters is booked at a time, so you won’t be competing with anyone else for a bird. This is a ground hunt. Bring a portable blind or sit against a big tree on the edge of an opening, and you’re welcome to cross onto the state land too.
Tags are simple. A New York turkey permit is sold over the counter with your hunting license, with no draw, and it covers both seasons. Massena is about 15 minutes away for lodging and food. This is a 2-day hunt: book your first day and the next day is yours as well.
Openings bordered by hardwoods are what make this good turkey ground in both seasons. The adjoining state forest gives birds timber to roost in and travel through, and they come out to the openings to strut in spring and to feed in fall.
In spring, get in early, listen for gobbling at daybreak, and set up on the edge closest to the bird. In fall, watch the apple trees and the edges for feeding flocks. If you can break one up, set up near where it scattered and call the birds back in as they try to regroup.
A non-refundable reservation fee is due at booking. 100% of the outdoorsman fee is processed 14 days before your hunt. This property accepts up to 3 turkey bookings per 7 days.
Reservation fees are non-refundable. Cancellations made within 14 days of your hunt may be subject to full or partial charges. Infinite Outdoors will work to reschedule your hunt where possible.
If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein
No draw required. New York turkey permits are sold over the counter to residents and nonresidents along with a hunting license, and one permit includes tags for both the spring and fall seasons.
Spring bag limit: two bearded turkeys per season, no more than one per day.
Fall bag limit: one turkey of either sex per season
This listing is bookable during New York’s spring turkey season, which runs through May in upstate New York, and the Northern Zone fall turkey season, a two-week season in early October. Check current season dates before your hunt: https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting/hunting-trapping-seasons
Hunting licenses and privileges: https://dec.ny.gov/regulatory/permits-licenses/sporting-and-use/sporting/hunting-license
HUNTING HOURS: Spring: one-half hour before sunrise until noon. Fall: sunrise to sunset.
This is a 2-day hunt. When you book your first day, the following day is automatically reserved for you.
After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and to continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year's harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country. New York also requires you to report your deer harvest to DEC: immediately through the HuntFishNY app if you are using e-tags, or within 48 hours if you are using paper tags.
