This 3rd and 4th rifle hunt offers hunters the chance to fill their pockets with tags and harvest either species - elk or mule deer - at no additional cost if the opportunity presents itself. Located in a well-known migration corridor in northwest Colorado, this 1,040-acre private property typically sees increased elk numbers during these later seasons as animals move out of higher country, creating more consistent opportunity across the ranch. Family owned for over 30 years; the property sits in an area recognized for strong late-season elk movement and is set up to take advantage of that transition. This hunt is operated in partnership with Tallent Outfitters (#2014) and follows a semi-guided, low-pressure approach that helps keep elk and deer moving naturally through the property. Hunters are assigned to a specific bunkhouse or camper and remain in that location throughout their stay, limiting overall pressure and helping maintain predictable movement patterns. This is a non-exclusive hunt, with multiple groups on the property at one time, and is best suited for hunters who prefer a more stationary style with assistance available when needed. Lodging is provided in one of seven strategically placed shooting bunkhouses, each set up for two hunters with two beds (one upstairs and one downstairs), propane heat, shooting windows, and an elevated porch for added visibility. Hunters can drive directly to their assigned unit for easy access. A hot plate is provided for simple cooking (no stove), so hunters should bring their own meals, and outdoor cooking is allowed with the option to use a tent stove outside. On-site support includes help with field dressing and transporting animals to a central hanging rack, after which hunters are responsible for taking meat to a processor, with a reliable option located in nearby Craig.
This property sits directly in the path of elk migrating toward their winter range, and by 3rd and 4th rifle seasons, that movement is in full swing. As weather changes and hunting pressure builds in the high country, elk begin to concentrate in this area, often traveling in large groups, with it not being uncommon to see herds approaching 100 head at a time. The combination of rolling sagebrush hills, open basins, and scattered draws creates natural travel routes and staging areas that elk consistently use during this transition. Historically, this property has produced strong results during the late rifle seasons, as the increase in elk numbers leads to more consistent encounters across the ranch. Mule deer are also present throughout the property, and this time of year marks the beginning of the rut, bringing increased daytime movement as bucks begin covering ground in search of does. With both migrating elk and rutting mule deer on the landscape, this period offers some of the highest overall game activity seen on the property.
Reservation fees are due at the time of booking and are non-refundable. 50% of the outdoorsman fee will process 2 weeks after the draw results in this state are posted, or immediately upon booking if the reservation is made after draw results post. All OTC hunts will also process 50% of the outdoorsman fee at the time of booking. The remaining 50% will process 1 month prior to the hunt.
