NoBar Star Lake is a hidden retreat in South Park Valley just outside Como, Colorado. Only 1.5 hours from Denver, 45 minutes from Breckenridge, and 1.5 hours from Colorado Springs, Bar Star Lake is a convenient day trip destination. The lake (Tarryall Creek Reservoir #1) is a private and secluded 35-acre mountain lake stocked with both big fish and mid-range fish to account for both quality and numbers. The catch and release policy preserves the natural habitat.
This lake is a true gem—fertile and healthy, offering the fish plenty of food to grow fast and strong. The upside? These trout are big and healthy. But here's the catch— the fishing here can be more technical, and the fish can be a bit pickier. But once you crack the code, the reward is huge. You might not reel in big numbers, but you’ll reel in big Trout.
Whether you prefer small boats (electric or human powered only- no gas motors), wading, or shore fishing, this property welcomes anglers of all levels from early May through the end of October. The lake offers easy access for walk, wade and float anglers, with flat and accessible parking right at the lake.
Families are welcome, however, young anglers (12 and under) must wear life jackets at all times while fishing from a boat or the shore. For those seeking expert guidance, Valholl Ranch provides access to experienced guides through the property owner, ensuring a fulfilling and educational fishing experience, just reach out to Infinite Outdoors and we can help get that set up for you. If you don't need a guide but would like advice on fish location, strategies that work and someone to net your fish, that service can be provided for a nominal fee. Infinite Outdoors can arrange this upon request.
This property is the perfect setup for fishing from spring through fall. Get out on the lake early season during those high run-off times when the rivers are raging and continue on through summer into fall to get away from the crowds. You do not have to give up days on the water, just book Bar Star Lake.
Due to agricultural concerns, dogs are not allowed on this property.
Request to book: When you select your dates and hit the “book now” button you are sending in a request to book, please note this is not a confirmed booking. If it is available, we will accept your booking/payment and send a confirmation email. If it is not available, we will inform you via email. Although we typically get your booking approved within a few hours, please allow up to 1 business day for booking confirmations.
All fishing must be booked through Infinite Outdoors.
Bar Star Lake is home to trout ranging from 14 to 30 inches (yes, you read that right). Anglers will find rainbow, brown, brook and tiger trout as well as an elusive palomino who has been seen but is still waiting to be caught. Not pellet fed, these trout are hunters and put up a good fight. Although many anglers can get away with fishing a 5wt rod, 6wt is recommended, as well as 3x and up tippet.
Recommended flies are scuds, chironomids, leeches and streamers.

The lake has a small and rustic warming hut with complementary coffee and snacks, as well as items for purchase that you may have forgotten. The building contains a space heater for those cold or rainy days. The lake is disability friendly, including an accessible porta potty.

I had a fantastic time at Bar Star as usual. I fished it from a pontoon and caught fish down by the dam as well as by the aerators. Two of the rainbows were huge! I also caught a nice brown and a tiger trout. Both leeches and chironomids were working. It’s a game of patience - just when you think nothing is happening you can get slammed. Don’t come under gunned for the occasional really big rainbow. 6 - 8 weight rod and 2X tippet.
