Bar Star Lake is a hidden retreat in South Park Valley just outside Como, Colorado. Only 1.5 hours from Denver, 45 minutes from Breckenridge, and 1.5 hours from Colorado Springs, Bar Star Lake is a convenient day trip destination.
Bar Star Lake (Tarryall Creek Reservoir #1) is a 30-acre mountain lake stocked with both big fish and mid-range fish to account for both quality and numbers. The catch and release policy ensures a private fishing experience and preserves the natural habitat.
This lake is a true gem—fertile and healthy, offering the fish plenty of food to grow fast and strong. The upside? These trout are big and healthy. But here's the catch— the fishing here can be more technical, and the fish can be a bit pickier. But once you crack the code, the reward is huge. You might not reel in big numbers, but you’ll reel in big Trout.
Whether you prefer small boats, wading, or shore fishing, This property welcomes anglers of all levels from May to October. The lake offers easy access for both walkwaders and float anglers, with flat and accessible parking.
Families are welcome, however, young anglers (12 and under) must wear life jackets at all times while fishing from a boat or the shore. For those seeking expert guidance, Valholl Ranch provides access to experienced guides through the property owner, ensuring a fulfilling and educational fishing experience, just reach out to Infinite Outdoors and we can help get that set up for you.
Bar Star Lake is home to trout ranging from 14 to 20 inches. Anglers with 9′ 5wt, 9′ 6wt, 9’6″ 6wt, and 9′ 7wt rods are well-equipped as well as 3x and up tippet and leaders. Recommended flies include scuds in orange and hopper-dropper setups. This property is the perfect setup to get out on the water during those high run-off times when the rivers are raging. You do not have to give up days on the water, just book Bar Star Lake instead.
Although we typically get your booking approved within a few hours, please allow up to 1 business day for booking confirmations.
Due to agricultural concerns, dogs are not allowed on this property.
Corporate Events: Corporate and large group events are allowed and encouraged on this property. Valholl Ranch also has on-site shooting ranges and can offer your group Blast and Cast options.

Another great day at Bar Star Lake. Landed about 8, including two massive rainbows and several large browns. Small black leach, balanced leach, and especially black with white "eyes" boobies were effective. Used a pontoon belly boat. Best action in the vicinity of the aerators. Thanks, Eric!

I fished Bar Star Lake 2 weeks ago and managed only one hookup (did not land her). This time, I hooked 10-12 trout and landed most of them. Although I don't take my fish out of the water, at least 3 of the Rainbows were around 24" and THICK! The rest of the trout were a mix of Brown and Rainbow trout and ranged from 12-20". I strongly recommend 3x leaders to bring the fish to net more quickly. Leeches and chironomid patterns were the ticket.

Had a fun day at Bar Star before dark clouds, rain, and strong winds sent me on my way. I hooked up fairly early but lost the fish straight away. And had no other fish action. But the bald eagle soaring overhead, and a single pronghorn silhouetted on the ridge were thrill enough for me. It was a wonderful day.
