Bar Star Lake Cast and Blast puts a private shooting range and trophy trout water on the same 2,230-acre ranch near Como, Colorado, in the South Park valley of Park County. Spend the morning on the range, then fly fish a 35-acre private reservoir for rainbow, brown, brook, and tiger trout from 14 to 30 inches. You are about 1.5 hours from Denver or Colorado Springs and 45 minutes from Breckenridge. Bar Star Lake, also known as Tarryall Creek Reservoir #1, is strictly catch and release, so fish grow big and fight hard. The fishing can be technical, and the reward is a trout worth the photo. Because it is a lake, spring runoff never blows it out, making it a reliable pick when rivers are high and crowded. Fish from shore, wade the edges, or launch a float tube or small boat with an electric or human-powered motor. The shooting ranges sit far enough from the lake to keep the water quiet. A rustic warming hut with a heater, coffee, and snacks, an accessible porta potty, and an A-frame blind round out a disability-friendly setup. Groups of up to 8 make this a natural fit for corporate outings, bachelor and bachelorette trips, or a family day out. Fishing runs sunrise to 4 PM, May through October. Anglers 12 and under wear a life jacket on or near the water, and dogs are not allowed. Fairplay, about 15 minutes away, has lodging and restaurants.

Bar Star Lake sits along the Tarryall Creek corridor in Colorado's South Park, high-country water that stays fishable from May through October. Rainbow, brown, brook, and tiger trout share the reservoir, along with the occasional palomino, and fish from 14 to 30 inches are common. Catch-and-release management lets these trout feed and grow year over year, so expect heavy, wild-feeding fish that test your knots. Scuds and chironomids are the everyday food source, while leeches and streamers move the biggest fish. A 6-weight rod with 3X or heavier tippet handles most of what you will hook. In the warmer months, early mornings usually fish best.

Fishing Season: May - October. A great time to fish this property is during spring runoff as it is not affected.

Rod recommendation: 9' 5wt, 9' 6wt, 9'6" 6wt, and 9' 7wt rods are well-equipped as well as 3x and up tippet and leaders.

Float tubes and small boats are allowed, but only human-powered or electric motors are permitted. Safety is a priority, all float anglers must comply with Colorado PFD regulations.  All anglers 12 and under MUST wear PFD at all times when on or near the water.

The lake has a small and rustic warming hut with complementary coffee and snacks, as well as items for purchase that you may have forgotten. The building contains a space heater for those cold or rainy days. The lake is disability friendly, including an accessible porta potty. An A frame blind is also available for use.

Corporate and large group events are welcomed and encouraged on this property. Valholl Ranch has on-site private shooting ranges far enough from the lake not to disturb the serenity but close enough to be convenient. This property offers your group Cast & Blast options. Tent and RV camping, horseback riding as well as many other activities are available through the ranch for those who may be bringing non-angler family and friends along.
