Notes from the landowner

Spend a full day outdoors at Bar Star Lake, starting with morning waterfowl hunting and finishing with afternoon trout fishing all on the same secluded property. Once the birds settle down, trade the blind for a fly rod and continue the adventure on this private 35-acre mountain lake. Perfect for corporate outings, bachelor/bachelorette trips, or anyone who wants it all in a single day.

Just outside Como, Colorado, only 1.5 hours from Denver, 45 minutes from Breckenridge, and 1.5 hours from Colorado Springs, Bar Star Lake (Tarryall Creek Reservoir #1) is a convenient retreat. The lake is catch-and-release only, ensuring a healthy ecosystem where trout grow big, strong, and rewarding to catch. While the fishing can be technical, the payoff is trophy-sized trout that make every strike unforgettable.

The lake accommodates all styles of fishing, small boats (electric or human-powered only), wading, or shore fishing all with an easy walk-in and float access. Open from early May through October, it’s an ideal alternative to crowded rivers during peak runoff and summer.

Families are welcome, though anglers 12 and under must wear life jackets near the water. For those who want expert insight, guides from Valholl Ranch are available through Infinite Outdoors. We can also arrange light guiding support and help with fish location, techniques, or netting for a nominal fee. (Not provided by Infinite Outdoors)

Important Notes:

No dogs allowed due to agricultural concerns.

All fishing must be booked through Infinite Outdoors.

Bookings are request-based; confirmation is sent once availability is verified.

Game and habitat information

Waterfowl: This 35-acre private reservoir in South Park Valley lies along the Tarryall Creek corridor a key migration route through the central Rockies. Thanks to active water management, it offers rare high-country waterfowl habitat with consistent late-season hunting. Early in the season, expect lively teal flights along with gadwall, wigeon, and mallards. As fall deepens, surrounding fields and meadows attract larger flocks of mallards and Canada geese, with occasional pintail and diver duck sightings.

Fishing: Bar Star Lake is home to trophy-class trout ranging from 14 to 30 inches, including rainbow, brown, brook, tiger, and even a legendary palomino. These wild-feeding trout are strong fighters, best targeted with a 6wt rod and 3x or heavier tippet. Productive flies include scuds, chironomids, leeches, and streamers.

Do It Yourself Fishing

Infinite Outdoors is a technology platform that provides landowners with the ability to list their properties for recreational use and manage them in a conservation minded way. Infinite Outdoors is primarily dedicated to DIY Hunting and Angling, it is the angler's responsibility to be aware of weather, water flow, and river conditions. No refunds will be issued due to unfavorable conditions. It is the angler's responsibility to verify current conditions prior to arrival. Landowner calendars may show availability even when conditions are not favorable for fishing. In such cases, it is the angler's responsibility to check all local rules, regulations, and closures before fishing. Please review the Fishing Information tab for details that may assist in planning your trip.
