DIY prairie dog hunting = endless fun. There is no shortage of opportunities on this ranch to find prairie dog towns and spend a few hours sighting in the rifles. Come enjoy over 3,200 acres of private property just outside of Las Animas, Colorado, where the weather is usually nice enough to hunt in a t-shirt and the prairie dogs never disappear. Always be sure of your target while on the ranch, and what's beyond it. As this is a working cattle ranch, we ask that you treat the property with respect and keep safety at the forefront of everything you do. Spend the day moving from town to town and help us keep the varmint population in check! Please make sure to check the list of rules sent after booking, and study the IO map that is provided to you.
This 3,200-acre ranch sits in classic shortgrass prairie country where prairie dogs do very well. The flat ground and open grasslands allow prairie dog towns to spread out across large portions of the property, creating several active colonies. Prairie dogs prefer open terrain where they can see predators coming from a distance, and the wide visibility across this landscape makes it a good place for them to establish and maintain large towns. Because of the size of the ranch, prairie dogs are not limited to one small area. Instead, there are multiple sections of the property where towns are established, giving hunters the ability to move around and find active dogs throughout the day. The open terrain also provides long shooting distances and clear sightlines across the prairie, making it easy to spot movement from mound to mound. With the amount of suitable habitat and the number of established towns, this property holds a strong population of prairie dogs across the landscape.
