Notes from the landowner

Cottonwood Springs carries a resident turkey population that has outgrown the available ground, which makes for consistently active spring mornings. Ponderosa roosts, open grass flats for strutting, and year-round spring water combine to hold birds on the property through the entire spring season. The same overabundant resident flock that makes spring hunting productive carries into fall, with birds using the property's timber and open ground through the winter months around the reliable spring water source.

Game and habitat information

Cottonwood Springs sits in classic southern Black Hills ponderosa pine country, with rolling, timbered terrain that gives game plenty of cover and travel corridors throughout the property. A natural spring provides reliable water year-round, which is a major draw for elk, deer, and turkey alike — especially through the drier summer and fall months when other water sources on the landscape can dry up. The mix of pine cover and open ground creates good edge habitat, offering both bedding/roosting cover and feeding areas within close range of each other. The property's turkey population in particular has grown beyond what the ground can comfortably support, making for consistently active sightings across both spring and fall seasons.

Availability

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged from contacting Infinite Outdoors. Some landowners have not opened their land for reservations yet. The other reason properties might be unavailable is because we work directly with our landowners and hunts are booked by quota set by our biologist for the current year. That being said, we are willing, and able in most cases, to pre-book you for next season. OR book you in place of someone else canceling their reservation.
