Located just outside the historic town of Melrose, Montana, this private property offers premier access to waterfowl hunting along the renowned Big Hole River. The property features a mix of agricultural fields, river bottom habitat, and natural loafing areas that consistently attract migrating geese throughout the season.
Hunters will appreciate the scenic setting of the Big Hole Valley, with sweeping mountain views and abundant wildlife. The river provides a natural flight corridor, while surrounding grain fields ensure steady bird activity. This combination makes for excellent decoying opportunities and consistent success.
With easy access just minutes from Melrose, the property offers both convenience and seclusion. Whether you’re planning a solo hunt, a small group outing, or introducing someone new to waterfowling, this spot provides the ideal balance of accessibility and wild Montana beauty.
The ranch is active year-round, so expect to encounter cattle, depending on the season. Please yield to ranch operations, respect fencing and gates, and follow all “leave no trace” principles. The ranch does offer lodging in a choice of Airbnb's for an additional charge.
This property sits along a productive stretch of the Big Hole River, offering a mix of agricultural fields, riparian habitat, and open valley ground that creates prime conditions for waterfowl. The fields are planted annually with a rotation of barley, oats, and corn. After harvest, waste grain provides a reliable food source that draws in large numbers of geese throughout the late fall and into winter.
The river corridor itself serves as a natural travel lane for migrating birds, while nearby wetlands and backwater areas create ideal loafing and resting habitat. The surrounding crop fields act as high-quality feeding grounds, ensuring consistent bird presence on the property. In addition to geese, hunters and visitors frequently observe ducks, sandhill cranes, deer, and other wildlife taking advantage of the diverse food and cover resources.
The blend of river bottom habitat and productive agricultural ground makes this property a valuable stopover site in the region and one of the most reliable goose hunting destinations in the Big Hole Valley.
