Notes from the landowner

Located just west of Marengo, Pine Creek Ranch offers nearly 300 acres of private land in the heart of Iowa’s hunting country. Situated in Unit 7 and just south of the expansive Iowa River Corridor, this property combines the seclusion of a private getaway with easy access to surrounding recreational opportunities. Access is fully DIY and booked in 5-day intervals, giving hunters complete independence and ample time to explore the property. Multiple two-seater stands are already in place and positioned for both rifle and archery use, each overlooking a food plot. The landowner takes a hands-on approach and prefers to give each group a tour of the property the day before their hunt begins, so guests should plan to arrive early to accommodate this. After booking, hunters will receive the landowner’s email in their confirmation message to coordinate arrival and further details. While lodging is not included in the base cost of access, two on-site options are available: a rustic log cabin listed on Airbnb (link in FAQs) and a more basic bunkhouse that sleeps six and includes a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and several couches. There is also a designated camper site with sewer, water, and electric hookups.

Game and habitat information

Pine Creek Ranch spans nearly 300 acres of rolling hills and lush timber, offering ideal conditions for a high-quality whitetail deer hunt. The property is well-balanced with thick CRP fields, dense timber for bedding, and a combination of food and water sources that support deer year-round. Several established food plots - planted in soybeans, corn, sorghum, radishes, and turnips - keep a strong doe population on the property, creating excellent rut activity as mature bucks are drawn in from surrounding areas. Water is available from multiple creek bottoms and a pond near the boundary, enhancing the property’s ability to hold deer consistently. Buck size here typically ranges from 140 to 160 inches, with the possibility of encountering 180- to 200-class deer that are known to roam the area or have been taken on neighboring properties. During the rut, bucks may travel from miles away in search of does, but throughout most of the season, consistent food and cover ensure their range stays tight - often no more than a mile - making Pine Creek Ranch a strategic and promising location for both early and late season hunts.

Access Duration

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
