Eaton Ranch is a 920-acre DIY antlerless deer hunting property near Dupree, South Dakota, in Ziebach County and West River deer Unit 64A.
Does and fawns of both species work the draws and creek bottoms of this rolling 2,400-foot prairie, bedding in the breaks below the buttes. A morning on a high point or an evening near the 2-acre lake usually turns up deer fast, which matters on a short hunt.
You and one partner get the ranch to yourselves for 2 days. It is a great fit for a new hunter, a parent and child, or anyone looking to fill the freezer. Haul your deer out on the two-tracks.
This hunt runs during the November West River rifle season and is for antlerless mule deer or whitetails only. Bring a Unit 64A deer license from SD Game, Fish and Parks.
Both mule deer and whitetails use Eaton Ranch. The creek bottoms and draws hold deer during the day and serve as travel lanes, while the breaks around the buttes provide bedding cover. Setting up along a draw leading to the 2-acre lake or second water feature, or glassing from a butte at first light, are both effective ways to locate antlerless deer quickly on a short hunt.
Reservation fees are due at the time of booking and are non-refundable. 50% of the outdoorsman fee will process 2 weeks after the draw results in this state are posted, or immediately upon booking if the reservation is made after draw results post. All OTC hunts will also process 50% of the outdoorsman fee at the time of booking. The remaining 50% will process 1 month prior to the hunt.
For big game adventures, cancellations made prior to placing a deposit will be handled immediately with no penalty. If a cancellation is requested after a deposit has been placed, Infinite Outdoors will make every effort to reschedule the hunt for a different season or a future year. Refunds are not guaranteed once a deposit has been placed.
If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein
This hunt is for antlerless deer only. Even if your Unit 64A license allows any deer, only does may be harvested on this hunt.
2-Day Hunt. By booking the first day of your hunt, you are automatically booked for the following day as well.
Unit: West River Deer Unit 64A (Ziebach County). License: Type 01, one Any Deer. Current allocation: 250 resident and 20 nonresident licenses ($45 resident, $375 nonresident).
Draw odds: In the 2025 draw, 314 residents listed Unit 64A Any Deer as their first choice for 250 licenses, and 67 nonresidents applied first choice for 20 licenses. That works out to enough licenses for roughly 4 of every 5 resident first-choice applicants and about 1 of every 3 nonresident first-choice applicants. Preference points improve your odds.
Hunter success: Hunters holding a Unit 64A Any Deer license had a 65% success rate in 2025, well above the 49% average across all West River units, and the reported buck harvest was split evenly between whitetails and mule deer (source: SD GFP 2025 West River Firearm Deer Harvest Report).
How to get a license: Unit 64A licenses are awarded through the SD GFP combined deer draw. Any licenses left after the draws are sold first come, first served until the season closes. You must hold a valid Unit 64A license to book this hunt.
Purchase licenses at gfp.sd.gov or through Go Outdoors South Dakota.
This hunt is available during the South Dakota West River rifle deer season in November. Season dates are set each year by SD Game, Fish and Parks.
Check current season dates and regulations at gfp.sd.gov before your hunt.
After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and to continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we make changes to future years' harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country.
