Faith and Furrow offers private late-season elk hunting on 900 acres of winter wheat and summer fallow just east of East Helena in Lewis and Clark County, Montana, in Hunting District 388. In the years elk move down onto these fields in November, they come in big numbers. When you see open dates, the elk are here.
Green winter wheat is one of the best late-season food sources in the valley, and elk will travel a long way to reach it once the high country starts to fill with snow. The open fields let you spot elk from a long way off and plan your move. Glass the fields at first and last light, then use the small drainages that cut through the fields to set up or close the gap.
Your party of up to two hunters has the property to itself. Only one hunt is booked on Faith and Furrow at a time. Hunting is on foot from designated parking along roads and field edges. Once your elk is down, you can drive a direct route to it and back out to the road, which makes for a far easier pack-out than a mountain hunt.
This is a 2-day hunt during the general season for rifle hunters, or archers, holding a valid Montana elk license for the district. Book your first day and the following day is yours as well. Helena is about 10 miles west for hotels, restaurants, and supplies.
Elk spend much of the year in the timbered mountains that ring the Helena Valley. Late in the fall, snow and hunting pressure in the high country can push large herds down onto private agricultural ground. Winter wheat stays green and nutritious after native grasses have cured, and that makes these fields a powerful draw. Expect elk to feed in the open at night and around first and last light, then drift back toward cover as the day goes on. Be set up before shooting light, watch the wind closely, and focus on the routes elk use to move between the fields and cover.
Reservation fees are due at the time of booking and are non-refundable. 50% of the outdoorsman fee will process 2 weeks after the draw results in this state are posted, or immediately upon booking if the reservation is made after draw results post. All OTC hunts will also process 50% of the outdoorsman fee at the time of booking. The remaining 50% will process 1 month prior to the hunt.
For big game adventures, cancellations made prior to placing a deposit will be handled immediately with no penalty. If a cancellation is requested after a deposit has been placed, Infinite Outdoors will make every effort to reschedule the hunt for a different season or a future year. Refunds are not guaranteed once a deposit has been placed.
If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
2-Day Hunt. By booking the first day of your hunt, you’re automatically booked for the following day as well.
