Notes from the landowner

Walker Ranch is a DIY varmint hunting property north of Raymer, Colorado in GMU 88. This property offers over 2500 acres of privately deeded property to hunt unpressured varmint species such as coyotes and prairie dogs. It is bordered by public land and is used as an operational cattle ranch, so being sure of your target and beyond is vital to safety on this ranch. Access to the property is required to be done on foot only - no off-roading will be permitted. Please find a safe spot to park and hike into the property for your adventure. As this is an operating cattle ranch, it is subject to activities at any given time. Spring, summer and early fall will be the busiest times of year for cattle operations. The use of this property will be permitted during the day only, meaning no overnight hunting or discharging of firearms is allowed. Please treat and respect our property as it is your own, and help us keep the varmint population in check!

Game and habitat information

This property provides strong habitat for both coyote and prairie dog hunting due to its expansive pasture ground, rolling terrain, and consistent food and water sources. The open grasslands and gently broken hills offer excellent visibility for spotting and setting up on coyotes, while the canyons, valleys, and creek bottoms create natural travel corridors predators use when moving between bedding areas and feeding zones. Multiple water sources—including stock tanks and natural water holes influenced by South Pawnee Creek—help support a healthy prey base, and with abundant small mammals, ground-nesting birds, and the presence of livestock, coyotes have consistent food availability and are thriving on the landscape. Hunting pressure in the area has been relatively limited, meaning coyotes are generally less call-shy than in heavily pressured regions and may respond more readily to standard calling setups. Prairie dog towns are well established across suitable portions of the ranch, and with minimal sustained shooting pressure, dogs are less likely to immediately shut down after the first shot compared to high-traffic public areas.
