Notes from the landowner

This is a DIY waterfowl hunt near Gilcrest, Colorado, on an irrigated alfalfa field. The property features a 4-man pit positioned on the edge of the field, allowing you to set your decoy spread out into the crop without disturbing the planted alfalfa. We ask that you do not drive in the planted crop, and instead use the specified path shown in the Infinite Outdoors app. Once set up, you'll be able to park less than a few hundred yards away from the pit. Please note that there are residences and other structures in the area, so be mindful of your shooting lanes. There is plenty of open space to hunt, but we ask that you stay aware of your surroundings. As always, please treat the property with respect - close any gates behind you, don't speed, and pick up after yourself. There are no bathrooms on site, but Gilcrest and Platteville are just a short drive away. We hope to have you back many times!

Game and habitat information

This property is located in the Northeast Zone of Colorado within the Central Flyway. The primary target species on this field will be dark geese - Canada and Cackling geese are well known for feeding heavily in alfalfa, particularly during the early season before harvest and again in the fall as birds stage and migrate through the region. Ducks are less common over a field setup but are always a possibility given the location Milton Reservoir sits roughly 5 miles to the east, and the South Platte River runs a similar distance to the west - putting this alfalfa field squarely between two of the area's most significant waterfowl roost sites. Birds feeding out from either location will regularly work fields like this one throughout the season.
