Notes from the landowner

Deer River Gateway pairs private deer hunting on 109 acres in the Town of Brasher, St. Lawrence County, New York (WMU 6A) with a three-bedroom camp on the Deer River, about five miles down the road.

The hunting ground backs up to roughly 20,000 acres of Brasher State Forest. Deer funnel off that timber through old-field openings and hardwood edges, and four apple trees draw them in through the fall. Scrapes and rubs mark the trees, and trail cameras have captured bucks moving in daylight and at night.

After the hunt, head back to camp. It has three bedrooms, a living room, a big deck, and a hot tub for thawing out after a cold North Country sit. Up to four hunters can book together, which makes it a true deer camp for you and your crew.

This is a 3-day hunt with two nights at camp. New York deer licenses are sold over the counter to residents and nonresidents, so there is no draw and no waiting. Hunt archery, muzzleloader, or firearms season with the right privileges.

Please do not shoot a doe on the landowners property. The property borders Brasher State Forest, which is public land open to hunting under New York regulations. You may cross onto the state land to get a doe, but follow all state rules while you’re there, and use the app to know which side of the line you’re on.

Game and habitat information

The property is classic North Country deer ground: old-field openings, hardwood edges, and a direct boundary with Brasher State Forest. Deer bed in the big timber and move onto the property to feed, which gives you edges and travel routes to hunt from opening day of archery season through the end of the firearms season.

Early in the fall, the four apple trees are the place to be as deer gather around the drops. By November, scrapes and rubs build along the edges and bucks start moving off the state forest in daylight. Scout on your first afternoon, set up on the sign, and hunt the wind.

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.

Tresspassing

Tags and Draw Odds

No draw required for your buck. New York deer licenses and privileges are sold over the counter to residents and nonresidents, online or at any license agent, with no application window and no preference points. Every New York hunting license includes an Antlered Deer Tag, and each bowhunting or muzzleloading privilege adds a Bow/Muzzleloader Antlerless Deer Tag.

Earn a second buck: under New York's Earn-a-2nd-Buck system, hunters who take and report an antlerless deer on a valid antlerless tag receive a second Antlered Deer Tag. Do not shoot a Doe on the landowners property per his guidelines, you may move to the connected state land to grab a Doe.

Doe permits in WMU 6A are tight. Deer Management Permits (DMPs) for antlerless deer are issued by lottery in this unit. In the 2026 DMP lottery, WMU 6A permits went only to resident applicants holding preference points, and none were available to nonresidents. Antlerless rules in WMU 6A also vary by season, so check the DEC deer regulations before you hunt: https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting/deer-bear/regulations

Current Season

This package is bookable during New York's Northern Zone archery season, muzzleloader season, and regular firearms season. Check current season dates before your hunt: https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hunting/deer-bear/seasons

Hunt Duration

This is a 3-day hunt. When you book your first day, the following 2 days are automatically reserved for you. Your booking includes two nights at a three-bedroom camp on the Deer River in Brasher, about five miles from the hunting property. The camp has a living room, a large deck, and a hot tub. After you book, you’ll receive the landowner’s contact information so you can reach out with any lodging questions and arrange check-in.

Harvest Reports

After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and to continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year's harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country. New York also requires you to report your deer harvest to DEC: immediately through the HuntFishNY app if you are using e-tags, or within 48 hours if you are using paper tags.
