Notes from the landowner

Welcome to southern Colorado spring turkey hunting! GV Webster is a DIY turkey hunting property just south of Aguilar, Colorado in GMU 85. At just under 900 acres, this ranch offers plenty of room to roam, and great bird numbers. It is made up of two separate pieces of ground, roughly 2 miles apart, which is great for opportunities to chase different birds each day of your hunt. This is a 3-day hunt, with exclusive access to the ranch during your adventure. This is a true DIY hunt, meaning no outside services or amenities are provided. Hunters should expect easy access into the properties, but once inside, to get out and hunt from foot. No driving off of existing roads or paths will be tolerated. Please note that a piece of this property borders Colorado State Trust Land, which is not open to the public and inaccessible for this hunt.

Game and habitat information

This property offers classic Merriam’s turkey habitat, combining open feeding areas with adjacent timbered cover that turkeys rely on throughout the spring season. Broad, open meadows and grassy flats provide ideal strutting and feeding areas, as evidenced by regular flock activity and visible use by both hens and mature toms. These open areas allow birds to spread out, display, and remain visible for hunters during peak morning and mid-day movement. Surrounding the open ground is a mix of mature conifer stands and scattered hardwoods that offer excellent roosting cover. Merriam’s turkeys favor elevated timber edges like these, using them as nighttime roosts before dropping into nearby openings at first light. The transition zones between timber and meadow create natural travel corridors that birds use consistently as they move between roosting, feeding, and breeding areas. Subtle terrain changes, fallen timber, and edge cover within the meadows provide additional security and loafing areas, helping birds feel comfortable lingering on the property. Fence lines and open sightlines further enhance visibility and calling setups, giving hunters multiple options to work birds without over-pressuring a single area.
