Arkansas River Big Bend offers access to a coveted stretch of the Arkansas River, roughly 12 miles north of Buena Vista. While year-round access is available, the river historically freezes here between November and February, making the prime angling season effectively spring through fall. However, don't let that discourage you from checking current conditions and targeting winter fishing, as it will depend on the year. Access to this property is available from sunrise to sunset and is limited to two guests per day. All fishing here is fly fishing only, with barbless hooks required and a strict catch-and-release practice in effect. There is a footbridge on the property that provides easy access to the opposite side of the river - only one person at a time should use it. Camping is not allowed on this property, and smoking is also prohibited. Arkansas River Big Bend is a carefully managed piece of water designed to protect the fishery and the quality of the experience. Anglers should keep in mind that this section of the Arkansas is lightly rafted with the occasional kayak passing through as well.
provides over a mile of water on one of Colorado's most celebrated fisheries — part of the longest stretch of Gold Medal-designated water in the state. The river here offers a varied mix of long runs, riffles, and pocket water, giving anglers the opportunity to cover a wide range of water types throughout the day. Both brown and rainbow trout are present throughout this stretch, and fish in excess of 18 inches have been reported. The brown trout population on the Arkansas is entirely wild and self-sustaining, while rainbows are stocked and known to grow to impressive sizes. Insect life on the Arkansas is prolific year-round, with caddis, stoneflies, Blue-Winged Olives, and midges all playing a role depending on the season — making this a rewarding fishery for the well-prepared angler.
