Notes from the landowner

Elk Creek is a DIY deer hunting property located west of Sioux City, IA in the state of Nebraska. It is made up of over 800 acres of pristine deer country, including dense timber that provides security, with over 300 acres of CRP open areas. Hunters should note that the property is also surrounded by multiple food sources, holding deer in this area all year round. The trophy potential here is high as well as the general deer population. There will be multiple tree stands as well as permanent ground blinds available for use. The landowner is willing to chat prior to your hunt, to provide advice on which hunting areas are best with the current conditions. Two points of entry to the property are available for use, and parking areas provided, though driving through the rest of the property is prohibited. By booking a hunt at Sarpy Road, you are also automatically booked for the following two days, as this is a three-day hunt. Hunters must abide by all state of Nebraska regulations, including but not limited to method of take, licensing and limits.

Game and habitat information

Just south of Willis NE, Elk Creek boasts an ideal environment for large Whitetail deer, with its diverse range of biological habitats, including a riverbed, hardwood forests, and agricultural fields, And over 300 acres of CRP!. Whitetail deer are abundant in the area, especially during the rut, attracted to the various food sources provided by the agricultural fields, as well as the shelter and cover provided by the hardwood forests. The deer travel along the pockets of CRP between the forested sections, making them a prime location for hunters to set up near. The thick vegetation along the large reservoir on the property also can be an excellent opportunity to target deer on the property. Hardwood forests habitat offer excellent cover for deer, making it an ideal location for hunters to set up in tree stands and wait for deer to pass by. The dense tree lines also provide a rich source of food for deer, with a mix of deciduous species such as oaks, maples, and hickories, which produce acorns, nuts, and other food sources throughout the year. Agricultural fields as always in the midwest, provide an abundance of food for deer and are highly attractive to the animals. However, this also means that hunters must be strategic in their approach, as the deer can be highly unpredictable and may not follow predictable patterns. Deer numbers increase during the rut and can be great for Nebraska rifle seasons.
