Notes from the landowner

Located in Bracewell, Colorado, between Windsor and Greeley, this property offers hunting opportunities on a corn field that previously has been cut for silage and was recently tilled. This means there will be minimal cover so extra effort will be needed to brush in any layout blinds or pit touchup. Fresh snow makes this field ideal given the amount of birds in the area. If you plan on bringing more than 4 people or want a little extra elbow room layout blinds are suggested. The property lies next to multiple reservoirs and is only a few miles from the Poudre River. This property has high demand since there are thousands of geese in the area. There are opportunities for both light and dark geese. The access point lies off County Road 29. You will turn to the west down a dirt road that runs on the south side of the property. Please be courteous of the surrounding houses and ensure you are located a minimum of 500 feet away from each house to comply with local laws. The “Blind/Pit” icon represents the recommended location to hunt. SPEEDING OVER 15mph ON PRIVATE ROADS WILL RESULT IN FINES.

Game and habitat information

Located right on the front range of the Rockies lies the Bracewell Farms Layout fields. This agriculture-rich environment amid population centers allows for incredible amounts of dark geese to migrate through this area every year. This property rotates crops every year and will be cut corn for the 23/24 waterfowl season. Look no farther than this property for world class dark goose hunting. This region is famous for its density in geese due to the agriculture in the area and the hundreds of open water rivers and reservoirs in the immediate surrounding area. The mixture of the front range, water food sources, minimal hunting pressure, and agriculture is a perfect opportunity to have world class waterfowl hunting opportunities. Please Abide by Colorado Game and fish regulations as well as hunting in close proximity to neighbors and other landowners.

The Bracewell Farm will present a lot of difficulties for goose and duck hunters to kill any birds for the rest of this year. Biggest problem is the field was originally silage corn but is now a dirt field due to the farmer disking after manure was spread throughout the field. As a result the area where the pit is located is a big scar (looks like a big highlight) that hunters will be unable to cover. We had 15 dozen full body decoys and had plenty of birds come take a look but wouldn’t finish due to the geese pinpointing where we were hiding. The only geese we killed where ones 10 minutes after the sun came up in the morning that landed on the edge of the spread and didn’t circle the decoys to notice the scar. The rest of the birds would flare at about 40 - 50 yards from the pit. Most birds would be in the range of 70 plus yards which is the start of the sky-busting range. There is also zero crops to use in the field to cover the pit and the pit is not strong enough to hold dirt if you were to shovel dirt on top to blend it in. In my 16 years of waterfowl hunting the most important piece is your ability to hide and look just like the field. With the current state of this pit the only way any hunter would be successful would be if there is anywhere from 3-8 inches of snow on the ground to cover the scar. Other notes I had is fellow hunters drive around the pit to set decoys but in my experience this is a big red flag to kill waterfowl since it creates tire tracks that are not easy to cover and impossible to set silhouettes since it makes the the ground like concrete. I usually will come no closer than 40 yards to the pit and walk all my decoys from the trailer to where I want to set them or the outfitters I’ve hunted by will only drive one way in and one way out without deviating the path created so there is only one set of tire tracks to cover. The only positive for this field is there were plenty of birds in the area.

Brushing in Blinds

Provided pit blinds are built at the beginning of the season. Hunters are encouraged to spend a few minutes brushing in the blinds to keep them in quality condition and keep them well hidden from birds.

Payment Process

Reservation fees are processed at the time of booking and are non-refundable. All outdoorsman fees will process automatically, 48 hours prior to the hunt.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made 48 hours or more prior to the adventure. Cancellations made within 48 hours will be subject to partial or full outdoorsman fee charges.

Availability

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.

Trespassing

You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.

Hunts canceled 48 hours or more prior to the adventure will not be changed. Hunts canceled within 48 hours will be charged 50%, and hunts canceled within 24 hours of the adventure will be charged the full outdoorsman fee.

Yes, they must be a current IO member. Monthly memberships are available at a lower cost. An outdoorsman fee will not be charged, but any “non-hunter” found hunting will be fined.

Your downloaded map and current adventure in the IO app will be your proof of permission. Be prepared to present it upon request.
