The Boxelder Turkey properties are situated just Southeast of Glenrock, Wyoming. The properties provide a vast and diverse landscape for turkey hunting enthusiasts. The property's location is ideal for turkey hunting, creek bottom and tree rows offering an optimal habitat for turkey populations. With a higher amount of turkey numbers in this part of the state, Southern Bixby is a great place to fill some tags! The Main access goes through the main ranch area. Please drive slow and carefully and DO NOT SHOOT AT OR AROUND ANY BUILDINGS. Be aware of construction being done on the East side of the hunting area.
Boxelder South Turkey sits along Boxelder Creek as it exits the Laramie Mountains and begins to open into the rolling foothills and ranch country of Converse County, just south of Glenrock on the historic Bixby Ranch. This stretch of creek is the heart of the property's turkey habitat, a narrow riparian corridor of mature cottonwoods and willows that provides the large-diameter roost trees Merriam's depend on, bordered tightly by deep coulees, rugged canyon walls, and native rangeland. The creek bottom here is intimate and focused, with birds naturally concentrated along the water rather than spread across wide open country.
The Bixby's working cattle ranch landscape adds key foraging habitat directly adjacent to the creek corridor. Irrigated meadows and pasture ground pull birds out of the timber to feed, and the reservoirs and ponds scattered across the property provide reliable water sources that anchor turkey movement throughout the spring season. It's a classic central Wyoming setup, with gobblers roosting in the cottonwoods, working the open ground at first light, and pulling back into the creek bottom cover as the day wears on.
