Wolf Pen is a 35-acre private archery deer hunting property near Tyner, Kentucky, in Jackson County and Kentucky Deer Zone 3, open to bowhunters, crossbow hunters, and muzzleloader hunters chasing eastern Kentucky whitetails.
This is classic Appalachian ridge-and-hollow ground: steep mixed hardwood ridges, thick interior timber where deer bed, and creek-bottom cover near Wolf Pen Creek. Deer travel the ridges, edges, and hollows between bedding cover and feed, which sets up the close, quiet shots bowhunters want. Kentucky is known nationally for trophy bucks, and Zone 3 allows up to four deer per hunter, one of them antlered.
Only one party of up to two hunters is on the property at a time, so the woods are yours for your full 3-day hunt. Access is walk-in only, which keeps trucks and noise out of the timber. Follow the easement road to the designated parking area, then slip in on foot. Camping is welcome if you want to stay close to your stand. Bring a pack frame or drag, since all game comes out on foot.
Hunt the archery season from early September into mid-January, the crossbow season from mid-September, or Kentucky's short early and late muzzleloader seasons. Deer permits are sold over the counter, so there is no draw. You will need a Kentucky hunting license and a statewide deer permit. Tyner has a grocery store and gas, and McKee, the county seat, has restaurants and lodging.
This is a Buck + Doe Hunt.
Eastern Kentucky whitetails live in steep, wooded country, and Wolf Pen is a strong example of it: mixed hardwood ridges, thick timber that holds bedding deer, and creek-bottom cover near Wolf Pen Creek. Deer move along ridge tops, benches, and edges between bedding cover and feeding areas, and the creek corridor and natural pinch points concentrate that travel. Early archery season finds deer on steady feeding patterns, rut activity builds through late October and November, and the late archery and late muzzleloader seasons reward hunters who focus on food and thick cover once the leaves are down.
After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and to continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them.
3-Day Hunt. By booking the first day of your hunt, you are automatically booked for the following 2 days as well.
This listing covers Kentucky's archery deer season, which opens in early September and runs into mid-January, the crossbow season, which opens in mid-September, and the early muzzleloader weekend in October and late muzzleloader season in December. This listing is not bookable during the November modern gun season. Check current season dates at fw.ky.gov.
No application needed. You will need a Kentucky annual hunting license (resident or nonresident) and a statewide deer permit, which covers up to four deer within Zone 3 limits. Additional deer permits are available if you want them. Buy online at fw.ky.gov or from any Kentucky license vendor, and carry proof of your license and permit while you hunt. Hunters born on or after January 1, 1975 must carry proof of hunter education.
Reservation fees are due at the time of booking and are non-refundable. 50% of the outdoorsman fee is due at the time of booking, and the remaining 50% will process 1 month prior to the hunt.
