Rule Ranch #2 is a DIY dove hunting property north of Las Animas, Colorado. This property is made up of 2 different parcels, with access points within 2 miles of each other. Access into each property must be mainly done on foot - check the Infinite Outdoors mobile app and map for instruction on where you can drive, where to park, and where your hunting boundaries are. Rule Ranch is an operating cattle ranch and is subject to cattle operations at any time; this should not impact your hunt, but it is something all hunters should be aware of during their access. You may hunt here from sunrise to sunset. This property is bordered by Blue Lake State Trust Land which is open to public hunting - if you notice any hunters accessing private land that should not be there, please report it to IO immediately. Treat this property as it is your own, with respect and class, and enjoy a day in the dove fields!
It is important to note that this is not your typical dove hunting set up as far as habitat goes. There are no trees or crops within miles of this property. Instead, this is a pasture hunt - and yes, the birds do show up here in big numbers. On Rule Ranch #2, the draw for birds is going to be wild sunflowers, water, and other cover that helps keep them out of the beating sun during the hottest parts of the day. Between the Fort Lyon Canal, several water holes, and natural cover, this property can be holding hundreds (or more) of doves at any given time. A great way to hunt is to walk the wild sunflowers and flush birds - although they may flush ahead of you too far to shoot. Hunters also find success setting up decoys and hiding in the sunflowers, which is a style of hunting that brings success early morning and late evening as the birds begin to fly again more consistently before heading back to roost. Although this is not a typical looking dove location, it will still provide a quality hunt with plenty of shooting opportunity.
Reservation fees are due at the time of booking and are non-refundable. The outdoorsman fee will automatically process 48 hours prior to the adventure - it is the organizer's responsibility to have all guests added to the adventure by then so everybody can be charged prior to the hunt.
For waterfowl, fishing, and other small game adventures, cancellations made 48 hours or more prior to the scheduled adventure will not be charged. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the adventure will be charged the full outdoorsman fee.
If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.
