7000 ftJust west of Virginia Dale, Colorado in GMU 191, this expansive 1,170-acre property offers an opportunity for one moose hunter a year who is seeking an exclusive experience. The land has been under the stewardship of the same family for over a century, reflecting a deep commitment to conservation and sustainable land use. In addition to the private acreage, hunters have direct access to several thousand acres of adjacent Roosevelt National Forest and the Cherokee State Wildlife Area, significantly expanding the scope of their hunting experience. Please note that this property is primarily utilized as a cattle ranch and is subject to cattle operations at any given time - livestock are typically removed by October, ensuring minimal disturbance during prime hunting seasons. For those seeking on-site accommodations, a main house and two cozy cabins may be available for an additional fee, providing comfortable lodging options. Existing two-track roads span across the property for easy navigation; however, off-road travel is restricted to minimize environmental impact, with exceptions made for game retrieval, though packing out on foot is preferred to preserve the land's integrity.
This property is located within Colorado's Game Management Unit 191, an area that has seen a successful reintroduction and growth of the Shiras moose population. In the late 1970s, Colorado Parks and Wildlife initiated a program that transplanted moose from Wyoming and Utah to establish a breeding population in certain regions of Colorado. Since then, the moose population has flourished across the state. This property's diverse landscape—comprising dark timber, aspen groves, open meadows, and spring-fed canyons—provides ideal habitat for moose, offering ample forage and cover. The presence of multiple creeks ensures reliable water sources, further enhancing the suitability of the environment for moose habitation. To maintain a sustainable and high-quality hunting experience, the property management permits only one moose hunter per year. This exclusive access, combined with the thriving moose population in the area, offers a unique and rewarding opportunity for hunters seeking a solitary and immersive experience in the Colorado wilderness.
