Notes from the landowner

Spend the day on a stretch of the Alamosa River at PR Ranch, a working cattle ranch tucked into the open high-desert country near La Jara and Alamosa in southern Colorado. This 2-mile section of private river frontage is stocked every spring, primarily with rainbow trout, and anglers regularly land fish in the 12–20″ range, with larger fish possible depending on the season. There's no public access here, this water is reserved for guests with a confirmed booking or direct landowner permission, so you're fishing water that sees far less pressure than the open river nearby.

Game and habitat information

The river corridor cuts through open rangeland, with a band of willows and cottonwoods lining the banks and rolling high-desert terrain on either side, bordered by BLM public land on multiple sides, so the setting feels wide open even though the fishing itself is private. Fishing here is fly-only and catch-and-release. During the summer season, fishing runs in two windows each day ,morning and evening ,with a midday break to let the water cool during the hottest part of the day. Book a full day and you can fish both windows. Expect grazing cattle, mountain views, and the kind of quiet you don't get on public water.
