Notes from the landowner

Enjoy a 1/2 mile of fishing on the Gold medal waters of the Arkansas River. This property is near Texas Creek, CO, and just 30 minutes from Canon City. Here you will find Rainbows and Browns, and a Caddis hatch that is prolific in the spring. During the summer and fall the dry fly and streamer action is not to be missed. Streamers and nymphs do exceptionally well when the river is high due to recent rain or runoff. This part of the Arkansas River is one of the 8 best trout rivers in the state. Be sure to glance up and around at your surroundings as there are 100 species of birds that inhabit this area, as well as, elk, deer, and bighorn sheep.

The majority of this property offers easy access with a footbridge to access both sides of the river. Near the campground, the bank has moderately easy river access as the bank is steep.

** Campers can pay to fish the section that we lease out, but they will be sure not to exceed the 4 max angler restriction** Campers who do not pay extra can fish in front of the campground where we are not allowed to fish. If it is available, we will accept your booking/payment and send a confirmation email. If it is not available, we will inform you via email.

5 out of 5 stars

Fly shop guy described the river as ‘chocolate milk’ when I stopped by on the way to Arkansas Great Escape. I would have described it as ‘dark tea’, but you get the idea. Besides being murky, the river was running a bit high at 700+ cfs. I spent the morning throwing a variety of single-hook streamers. Trout tucked close to the banks were interested and I had a number of hits & misses. I finally hooked a few and landed a couple brown trout. I switched to nymphing in the afternoon with a SJ worm as the lead fly. This led to a couple strikes and one fish to net. Overall, the day was a great escape.
