Johnson Canyon puts you on 40 private acres in Antelope Hunt Area 71, the East Poison Spider unit, in Natrona County, Wyoming, west of Casper. The parcel adjoins about 2,000 acres of state trust land and several BLM tracts, giving a small private base a whole lot of open country to work.
Antelope here live on the open sage flats that run between rolling hills, draws, and rocky outcrops. That broken terrain is what makes a spot-and-stalk work: glass the flats from a rise, then use the draws and hill shoulders to close the distance. Expect long views, steady wind, and plenty of time behind the glass.
Wyoming does not allow overnight camping, off-road driving, or open fires on state land, so a legal campsite on the edge of that ground is hard to find. Here you can pitch a tent on the property, or bring a trailer when weather and road conditions allow, and be glassing at first light without a long drive.
The property hosts one party of up to four hunters at a time, and each booking covers 3 days. Every hunter needs a valid Wyoming Area 71 antelope license. The road in is a rough two-track, so a high-clearance 4x4 is the way to go. Lodging, food, and fuel are in Casper, about 25 miles east.
The property is open, treeless sagebrush and grass country broken by rolling hills, draws, and rocky outcrops at roughly 6,200 to 6,500 feet. Antelope spend their days on the open sage flats, where they can see danger coming, and the surrounding draws and rises give hunters the terrain needed to get within range. Area 71 is a mostly private unit, and the adjoining state and BLM tracts add a meaningful block of huntable ground next to camp.
Reservation fees are due at the time of booking and are non-refundable. 50% of the outdoorsman fee will process 2 weeks after the Wyoming draw results are posted. If you are unsuccessful in the draw, reach out to IO and the situation will be handled accordingly. The remaining 50% will process 1 month prior to the hunt.
For big game adventures, cancellations made prior to placing a deposit will be handled immediately with no penalty. If a cancellation is requested after a deposit has been placed, Infinite Outdoors will make every effort to reschedule the hunt for a different season or a future year. Refunds are not guaranteed once a deposit has been placed.
If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein
Antelope Hunt Area 71 is limited quota, so every hunter needs to draw a Wyoming Area 71 antelope license before booking. Draw odds change every year. View current drawing odds, licenses, and leftover availability in the Wyoming Game and Fish Hunt Planner: https://wgfd.wyo.gov/HuntPlanner
Wyoming deer and antelope licenses are sold through the Wyoming Game and Fish Department draw. Apply, check leftover licenses, and buy preference points at wgfd.wyo.gov.
Area 71 has a special archery season in late summer followed by a rifle season that runs from mid-September through October. Season dates change every year; check current dates and regulations at wgfd.wyo.gov before your hunt.
The ground next to this property includes Wyoming state trust land and BLM land. Legally accessible state trust land is open to public hunting with a valid license, but Wyoming prohibits overnight camping, open fires, and off-road driving on state land, and vehicles must stay on established roads. Your camp stays on the private 40. Know where the private, state, and BLM lines are before you hunt, and use the Infinite Outdoors app or another land-status map to stay legal.
After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and to continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future years' harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country.
