Deer River Gateway's rut hunt is private deer hunting on 109 acres in the Town of Brasher, St. Lawrence County, New York, in WMU 6A, timed for the stretch of November when North Country bucks are on their feet.
As the cold sets in, bucks start covering ground in daylight looking for does. The property sits right against roughly 20,000 acres of Brasher State Forest, and the travel route off that timber runs through it. The rubs and scrapes are already there, and trail cameras have shown bucks moving day and night.
Rut dates are limited, and no more than four hunters are on the property at one time. Set up where the hardwood edges meet the old-field openings and plan on long sits, because this is the time of year when staying put pays off. The rut falls during the regular firearms season, so rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, handgun, bow, and crossbow are all legal with the right privileges.
Your buck tag comes with your New York hunting license, sold over the counter with no draw. Massena is about 15 minutes away for lodging, meals, and supplies. This is a 3-day hunt: book your first day and the next 2 days are yours as well.
The property is old-field openings bordered by hardwood edge, tucked against one of the biggest blocks of public timber in northern St. Lawrence County. Does feed along the openings and edges, and during the rut that is exactly where bucks come looking.
Scrapes and rubs line the travel route between the state forest and the property, and trail cameras have caught bucks using it in daylight. The leaves are down by November and sight lines open up through the hardwoods. Hunt the wind, watch the edges, and be ready for a buck cruising off the state land.
A non-refundable reservation fee is due at booking. A 50% deposit of the outdoorsman fee is charged at booking, and the remaining 50% is charged 1 month before your hunt.
Reservation fees are non-refundable. If you cancel before your deposit is processed, your cancellation is handled immediately. Once your deposit has been processed, Infinite Outdoors will work to reschedule your hunt for a different season or year. Refunds are not guaranteed.
If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein
No draw required for your buck. New York deer licenses and privileges are sold over the counter to residents and nonresidents, online or at any license agent, with no application window and no preference points. Every New York hunting license includes an Antlered Deer Tag, and each bowhunting or muzzleloading privilege adds a Bow/Muzzleloader Antlerless Deer Tag.
Earn a second buck: under New York's Earn-a-2nd-Buck system, hunters who take and report an antlerless deer on a valid antlerless tag receive a second Antlered Deer Tag.

3-Day Hunt. By booking the first day of your hunt, you are automatically booked for the following 2 days as well.
After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties, and to continue to put conservation at the forefront, we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year's harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country. New York also requires you to report your deer harvest to DEC: immediately through the HuntFishNY app if you are using e-tags, or within 48 hours if you are using paper tags.
