NoExplore the rugged beauty of Wyoming. This property offers anglers 0.50 miles of private access to the world-famous Encampment River in southern Wyoming. You have access to both sides of the river. The closest towns are Encampment and Saratoga. Fly fishing here is absolutely spectacular. Access here is moderate – difficult, as there are some steep banks and willows/brush to get to the water, but you can find space to try out that roll cast. This is what makes RareWaters properties unique to visit, they are wild and they are a bit harder to access but this is what gets you away from the crowds. The private and natural setting is home to many species of wildlife, keep your eyes peeled for deer, bald eagles, beavers, badgers, and more.
Anglers can expect to get into a bunch of Rainbow and Brown trout in the 16-20″ range. The insect life in this watershed is second to none. Expect to see plenty of fish rising during the right time of year. The Encampment River is some of the best dry fly fishing in the west. Expect to see salmon fly, golden stones, yellow sallies, caddis, tricos, and drake hatches. During runoff, the river can fish well, and hatches will be light this time of year but will start to pick up post-runoff.

Long drive from Denver to access a really stunning, but short, stretch of river on spectacular private ranch property. Property boundaries and river access is well marked along road (but not on river), and essential due to dense brush and willow cover along banks. Beautiful scenery and surroundings. Lots of terrific riffle/run/pool features, and rocky structure, but river was too shallow to allow remaining trout to dwell anywhere other than deeper runs and pools. Flows at 90 cfs allowed wading throughout. One nice 18" brown to net on a streamer, and a few other hits. Unfortunately, no rises today. I imagine will fish much better at higher flows, but will be challenging to fish from banks only. Will definitely try again when flows are higher, thinking ~150-300 cfs, but RW angler shared intel is advised.

This is probably one of the most scenic properties and river I have ever had the privilege of fishing. The location is truly exceptional and the directions to get there were comprehensive and accurate. All that being said, the fishing was really slow in spite of what looked like perfect habitat. Water level was low and clear. While this helped us to navigate the river and access the deeper pools without too much effort, it also meant that most of the trout were no longer there. We did see a few and my fishing partner landed a nice brown but we had a pretty quiet afternoon otherwise. I would be curious to know when a more optimal time of the year is for greater success on this improved stretch of river. Couple items to note: It is a long drive for a short section of river; but we also noticed that there is quite a bit of public access on the North Platte about a mile downstream should you run out of river to fish. Definitely worth another visit because there is no reason why a lot of trout should not be holding there.

If you want perfect mountain scenery, this is your place! Amazingly gorgeous piece of water. Fishing was marginal as there were a fair number of leaves on the water and the eagles were on patrol but the flow was perfect. A long drive for most to get there so hopefully you get the right day!
