River, Guides AllowedEscape to this secluded property along a half-mile stretch of the Shoshone River near Cody, Wyoming. John Colter originally named the river the Stinking Water when he encountered the strong odor of sulfur at a thermal area on the river near present-day Cody, Wyoming. This is a dam-fed river, right below Buffalo Bill Reservoir giving it a relatively consistent flow. Be prepared to catch rainbow after rainbow while fishing, ranging from 6-20 inches. Simple nymphs like worms and stoneflies were getting the job done. Something that stands out in the silty water, as you’d imagine the fish don’t see quite as well as a gin-clear stream. Sulfur Is Stinky! Upriver has a pungent smell to the air, but is beautiful and has great fishing.
This property offers a lot of excitement but requires some hiking and maneuvering around rocks. It may not be suitable for individuals with limited mobility. Access involves a hike down a decent dirt road along rocky banks with low vegetation. Upstream, you’ll find sulfur deposits and natural springs. On the opposite bank, a spring pours in clear blue water. Downriver features more rapids and fishing pockets but is trickier to access.
Due to livestock and other concerns, dogs are not allowed on this property.
