This property provides access to a 2-mile quiet stretch of La Bonte Creek just outside Douglas, Wyoming. The creek here features a mix of riffles, runs, and deeper bends that make it well suited for anglers who enjoy exploring small streams. You should find Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and the occasional Brook Trout.
Undercut banks and outside bends create natural holding water, while gravel riffles provide feeding lanes for fish. Anglers can walk the creek from the designated parking area and work upstream or downstream through several bends and runs. La Bonte Creek not widely known as a destination fishery, but it has some characteristics that can make it interesting for small-stream fly fishing and those willing to explore.
Please respect the working ranch by closing gates and avoiding disturbance to livestock.
This stretch of La Bonte Creek flows through classic Wyoming prairie creek habitat. The stream contains gravel riffles, deeper pools, and natural cutbanks that provide structure commonly used by fish in small prairie streams.
Grassy banks and cottonwood-lined sections contribute shade and seasonal terrestrial insects such as grasshoppers, ants, and beetles. Aquatic insects including mayflies, caddisflies, and midges are also present and provide forage throughout the season.
The mix of riffles, bends, and bank structure makes this a good setting for anglers who enjoy fishing small creeks and working water methodically. Please note, this is the lower prairie section where you may also find White sucker, Creek chub, Longnose dace, and Plains minnows.

Fishing Season: Fishing is generally best from spring through fall. In spring and early summer, nymphs and small streamers work well as fish become more active. During mid to late summer, terrestrials like grasshoppers, ants, and beetles can be effective along grassy banks. Fall can also provide good fishing as cooler water temperatures increase fish activity. Winter fishing may be limited depending on ice conditions.
