Located just 9 miles north of Thermopolis along the Bighorn River, this secluded 60-acre property offers a true DIY turkey hunting experience in the heart of central Wyoming. Merriam’s turkeys in this region are known to cover a lot of ground, and while their presence on the property can vary as they travel the river corridor, this setup gives hunters private access in a highly active area. It’s a great fit for those looking to explore new country while still having a solid home base, with additional hunting opportunities on nearby BLM and state lands just minutes away. This package includes two nights of on-site lodging at no additional cost, featuring a comfortable setup with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a lounge area - perfect for a weekend hunt where you can chase birds on private ground or branch out and cover more country as needed. You will be able to stay the night before your first day of hunting, and will check out after your second day of hunting.
Turkey hunting around Thermopolis and along the Bighorn River centers on Merriam’s turkeys, which are well adapted to this part of Wyoming and commonly found along river corridors and nearby foothills. In this region, birds tend to concentrate around the Bighorn River where cottonwood bottoms, scattered timber, and nearby ag ground create a strong mix of roosting cover and reliable food sources. Merriam’s turkeys rely heavily on these river systems, using the tall trees along the banks for roosting and then moving out into open ground, fields, and edges to feed throughout the day. The surrounding landscape - a mix of semi-arid basin country, broken hills, and pockets of timber - naturally supports turkey movement while keeping pressure relatively low compared to more well-known turkey states. Birds in this area are known for covering ground, often traveling between roost sites and feeding areas daily, which creates consistent opportunities for hunters who can stay mobile or set up along travel routes. Overall, the combination of river habitat, open terrain, and available food makes the Thermopolis area a solid and somewhat underrated destination for chasing Merriam’s turkeys.
