0Just outside of Boulder, Colorado, you can enjoy 0.5 miles of fishing on the North Boulder Creek in Boulder County. This property offers up total seclusion where you can immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the sounds and sight of the creek and canyon. The property is flanked by steep canyon walls with lots of rock outcroppings and a beautiful creek.
Be prepared for a bit more of a challenge to access the water. To get to the deep holes you will need to bushwhack through the willows down a steep bank. There are a few easier areas for you to shorefish around the cabin, house, and bridge but the area is tight and will require a shorter roll cast. The seclusion and beauty make this property worth the visit and is a place you can truly unplug and reset. ** The landowner is currently working on cutting paths to make access a bit easier for our anglers.**
AWD/4WD with high clearance is mandatory as the terrain is proven to be tough to navigate. You will be traveling down an unimproved dirt road with rocks and ruts. The last descent to the property is fairly steep to get down into the canyon. Please note this is in a remote canyon and you do not have cell service.
The creek is home to a variety of fish species, including brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout around the 6″ – 12″ range. The creek is known for its clear, cold water and its scenic surroundings, which make for an enjoyable but technical fishing experience. The best time to fish is typically between May and October. BWOs, caddisflies, and midge imitations are fly patterns that typically do well on Boulder Creek. This is pocket water/technical fishing, think 2-3 weight lines, and bring your shorter rods (6′ – 7’6″) and be prepared to use that roll cast. Look for deeper pools and pockets behind rocks and on the edge of the banks. This is a great spot for a weekend getaway for fishing enthusiasts that are looking for a bit more of a challenge!

Rare Waters staff was great as always and able to get me on this stretch in short notice. This is a fun but challenging section. There are lots of smaller brook trout and some rainbows as well. I ran a small hopper all afternoon in the rain and had fish eat in just about every pocket. There are very few easy bank access or castable locations (at the cabin parking and near the house). For the vast majority of the creek, you need to be in the water to make good casts. I started at the cabin and worked my way down to the house. Navigating larger rock/boulder sections was mandatory doing this. I would not take a novice or newbie here or anyone that is not sure footed. I used a 6.5 ft 3wt. Any longer or heavier would be very difficult to fish this section. Tenkara fisherman would find this to be an ideal property. I also would NOT recommend fishing this in high water as it could be dangerous. With all that being said, I had at least 50 eats and landed close to 40 fish in a couple of hours. I for sure would book this pristine solitude section again and possibly stay overnight in the primitive cabin which sits right on the Creek.

Challenging working upstream with flows on the high side. Should be less difficult as flows drop. Fun water, reminds me of learning to fly fish when about 12 years old on the headwaters of the Blue. Convenient to Denver area.

Had a great time. Water was still a little fast but caught lots of fish in all of the slower pockets. Mostly Brook trout but a few rainbows too. It’s kind of hard to get around but worth it. I will definitely go back. It was my favorite property so far.
