Notes from the landowner

Welcome to Lone Tree Road - we're glad to offer a 3-day DIY pronghorn hunt on our ground here in western Nebraska. The property sits within the North Sioux pronghorn management area and spans over 6,700 acres, giving you plenty of room to work with. Any legal method of take is welcome here, so long as you're following the state's current pronghorn regulations.

We ask that most of your movement on the property be done on foot. There are a handful of roads and two-tracks you're welcome to use to access different areas, but off-roading isn't permitted beyond those established routes. This is a working ranch and farm, so operations may be underway during your stay - we'll always give you a heads-up before anything happens near your hunting area. One simple ask: please leave any gates the way you found them, whether that's open or closed.

We don't offer camping or lodging on site, but Crawford and Chadron are both close by and have several options if you need a place to stay during your hunt. Treat the land right, and you'll always have a place here - we love having hunters back season after season.

Game and habitat information

Lone Tree Road sits within Nebraska's North Sioux pronghorn unit, home to the best antelope range in the state. Aerial surveys have shown the North Sioux unit supporting around five antelope per square mile, well above the Panhandle average of less than one per square mile - and Sioux and Dawes counties consistently post the highest pronghorn densities in Nebraska. That density hasn't always been a given. Nebraska's antelope population dropped sharply after severe winters in the late 1970s, and North Sioux was the only unit open to hunting by 1989, with just 50 buck-only permits issued that year. The herd recovered from there, and while numbers have fluctuated since, this unit has remained the backbone of Nebraska's antelope hunting.

As for trophy potential, a heavy-horned buck in the 14-inch range with 4-inch prongs typically scores around 70 points, while bucks pushing into record-book territory need 15 to 16-inch horns and 5 to 6-inch prongs to reach the Boone and Crockett all-time minimum. Given the quality of range this property sits on, bucks with that kind of horn growth are a realistic target here.

The property itself sits further into Nebraska's sandhills, with rolling terrain that pronghorn favor for both feeding and visibility. Water isn't a limiting factor - cattle watering holes, stock tanks, and, in wetter years, several seasonal drainages all provide reliable water sources across the property. This is where pronghorn spend most of their time, and after a few years of steady rebound, the population here is trending back toward the numbers this ground used to hold.
