The Dry River property offers a DIY pronghorn hunting opportunity in Colorado Unit 101, located just north of Joes, Colorado on the eastern plains. Made up of several separate tracts located within a few miles of one another, this listing provides access to over 6,500 acres of private ground. Access across the parcels will primarily be foot travel in areas without established two-tracks or roads. Where existing roads or two-tracks are present, vehicle use is permitted, but hunters must remain strictly on those established paths - no off-road travel or trail creation will be allowed. Several parcels border county roads, allowing hunters to approach from different sides depending on wind and conditions. Colorado manages pronghorn hunting in Unit 101 under a very limited buck tag quota but draw odds for the general public are relatively favorable for hunters with roughly 5–7 preference points. Landowner vouchers may occasionally be available for an additional cost paid directly to the landowner, though they are expected to be rare since landowners themselves often need 14–15 preference points to draw tags in this unit. For hunters interested in it, archery pronghorn licenses in this unit are available over the counter, and longer archery hunts - typically offering around five days of access -are available during the early season. Camping is not permitted on the property, but lodging is available in nearby towns such as Joes and Yuma, Colorado.
Dry River sits in classic eastern Colorado pronghorn country, where open plains, rolling sandhills, and short-grass prairie create the type of terrain antelope rely on for visibility and movement. The property spans a mix of sandhills, gently rolling ground and wide-open flats that allow pronghorn to watch large portions of the surrounding landscape. Because of the open terrain, spot-and-stalk hunting and glassing from distance are the primary strategies across the property. Surrounding dryland agriculture and irrigated crop circles play an important role in holding antelope in this part of Unit 102. These agricultural fields provide dependable forage during late summer and early fall, often drawing pronghorn out of the native prairie to feed. The combination of native grassland and nearby agriculture helps support consistent antelope use throughout the area. Water sources across the region are typically found in stock tanks and small livestock reservoirs, which provide dependable water in an otherwise dry prairie environment and help distribute pronghorn across the landscape. Colorado’s Unit 102 is known for producing solid mature pronghorn bucks, with many mature animals typically falling in the 13–15 inch range, and occasional larger bucks showing up each season. While the unit is not considered a high-density trophy destination, it supports stable antelope populations and good buck age structure, particularly on private ground where hunting pressure is more limited.
