Boxelder #10 South is a 60-acre DIY goose hunting property just north of Wellington, Colorado, in Larimer County on the northern Front Range and in the Central Flyway.

The property is a single alfalfa field, the kind of green feed Canada geese key on through the fall and winter as they build reserves. Open ag ground like this gives you room to set a spread and read where the birds want to land.

This is a layout field only, and there is no pit. Bring layout blinds or an A-frame, along with decoys and everything else you’ll need to hunt it on your own. Access comes from the north side, and all access points and parking spots show in the Adventures tab of the Infinite Outdoors app once you book, so download it before you head out.

Every person attending must be a current IO member to legally access the property. You’ll need a Colorado small game license, a Colorado waterfowl stamp, HIP registration and a federal duck stamp, and all Colorado Parks and Wildlife regulations apply. Wellington has hotels and RV parks, and Fort Collins is the closest full-service stop.

Boxelder #10 South is a 60-acre alfalfa field positioned to pull Canada geese all season. Geese feed on alfalfa year round, and they lean on it hardest during bad weather, when they need to refuel fast.

The field sits between two local reservoirs that geese use to loaf and rest through the middle of the day. In the mornings and evenings, large numbers of birds leave that water to feed, and this field is right in their path. That location is why a layout setup here can hunt as well as a six-person pit.

The field gets better as the season goes on. Once cooler weather moves in and the migration ramps up, new birds arrive along the Front Range, and a field this close to roost water is well placed to draw them in and hold them.

Reservation fees are processed at the time of booking and are non-refundable. All outdoorsman fees will process automatically, 48 hours prior to the hunt.

Cancellations must be made 48 hours or more prior to the adventure. Cancellations made within 48 hours will be subject to partial or full outdoorsman fee charges.

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.

You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.
