Buckeye Birds #1 is a 58-acre DIY goose hunting property near Buckeye, Colorado, just north of Wellington in Larimer County, sitting at 5,500 feet on the Northern Front Range in the Central Flyway.

The field is cut corn, chopped for silage, and it’s set up for dark geese with the occasional snow goose mixed in. Silage leaves short stalks, which geese prefer since they can land without their wings catching, and there’s still plenty of waste corn on the ground to pull birds into a good decoy spread. The Rawhide Power Plant cooling reservoir to the north stays open year round, so there’s always a roost within a few miles, and this field is among the first that feeding Canada geese see on their daily flights. A smaller reservoir just south serves as another roost and a midday loafing spot when it’s open. Front Range dark geese are heavily pressured in most places, but this ground has historically seen very little hunting.

Access is exclusive and private, booked one day at a time with no guide, no lease and no outfitter. An Alps Outdoorz A-frame blind with room for 4 hunters is set up and brushed in, but wind and weather wear on it, so plan time to add fresh brush before shooting light. Follow the single path in and out to the blind as shown in the Infinite Outdoors app, and do not drive through the field any other way.

Every person attending must be a paid Access+ member. Hunters need the proper Colorado small game license and waterfowl stamps through Colorado Parks and Wildlife and must follow all state rules on limits and method of take. Camping is not allowed and no lodging is provided. Wellington is the nearest town for fuel and supplies, with Fort Collins a short drive south.

Buckeye Birds #1 will be a cut corn field during the 2024/25 waterfowl season and will cater to dark geese more than any other species. Although, occasional snow geese can be found in this area due to abundant food and open water. The corn in this field will be cut for silage, which means it will have shorter stocks - this is a perk because geese do not generally enjoy landing in fields where their wings will be getting hit upon landing. Though it is cut for silage, there will still be corn left on the ground, and hunters will have the ability to traffic birds to the field with a good decoy spread. North of the property is the Rawhide Powerplant and cooling reservoir, that stays open all year-round. This means that there will always be an available roost within a few miles, and this field is among several that are the first thing feeding geese will see as they make their daily flights. Just south of the field is another small reservoir that when open, can act as another roost as well as a mid-day loafing location.

Reservation fees are processed at the time of booking and are non-refundable. All outdoorsman fees will process automatically, 48 hours prior to the hunt.

Cancellations must be made 48 hours or more prior to the adventure. Cancellations made within 48 hours will be subject to partial or full outdoorsman fee charges.

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.

You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.
