125Rule Ranch is a DIY pronghorn property located south of the town of Las Animas, located in GMU 125. It consists of over 3200 acres of quality pronghorn ground. Due to the very flat nature of the terrain found on this property, the pronghorn will move constantly. Rule Ranch offers several sources of water, and game will cross back and forth between them, frequenting the acreage provided here. Bordering this private property on almost all sides is Blue Lake State Trust Land, which is open to public hunting. The public will serve hunters on the private property in 2 ways: It will provide additional acreage to hunt on if necessary and will also cause pressured antelope to hightail it for private property. This hunt will be spot and stalk method of hunting, driving in and out will only be permitted on existing tracks. Hunters will be required to provide their own licensing and must abide by all state of Colorado rules and regulations.
This 3,200-acre property is characterized by predominantly flat, open shortgrass prairie that encourages constant pronghorn movement across the landscape. With very little vertical relief, antelope are rarely confined to one location and instead travel steadily between feed and water throughout the day. Several dependable water sources are positioned across and around the ranch, creating natural travel routes as pronghorn cross back and forth between them. Rather than holding animals in one concentrated pocket, the property functions as an active grazing and transition zone where herds filter through while rotating between water and surrounding forage. The wide-open terrain provides long sightlines typical of pronghorn country, allowing animals to detect movement at great distances and maintain their natural patterns. In dry conditions especially, water placement plays a major role in daily movement, and properties situated between reliable sources often see steady pronghorn traffic moving predictably across the acreage.
