North Fork South PlatteRiver Mileage
1/2 MileElevation
6615 ft.Nearly 3/4 of a mile of the North Fork of the South Platte just east of the town of Buffalo Creek. This property not only provides quality fishing, but also provides a breath of fresh air to get away and enjoy nature. This property is only located one hour southwest of Denver and provides easy access for a weekend fishing trip! In early spring, (Feb-Mar) the river is subject to be frozen in areas. This stretch of river contains browns, rainbows, and an occasional Brookie! Browns are typically larger in this stretch of water, so be prepared for a fight! SPEEDING OVER 15mph ON PRIVATE ROADS WILL RESULT IN FINES.
The North Fork of the South Platte River is known for its great fly fishing, steep gradient and beautiful views. This property has a variety of long riffles, deep pools, eddies and large boulder habitat that allows fish to move throughout the property. As you fish from the parking area up look for fish using the banks and eddies, especially in higher water. Both top and bottom holes allow for deep nymphing and stream action can be great throughout the property. Fish in this stretch of the river range from 12-24" which makes for an exciting day on the water!

Location was great. Fishing was a little slow the day I went, but the ones I caught were eating streamers aggressively.

Fantastic property. The lower half of the property easy to navigate. The upper half is a bit more difficult, but I enjoyed the hike. Caught a few fish on that particular day. Flows were bumped to 360 cfs. So running a bit strong. At 250 cfs the water would be easier to fish upstream and not having to stay on shore.

This is a beautiful stretch of the N. Fork of the S. Platte River, and I’m grateful to the owners for making it available…it was a peaceful outing! In 8 hours covering all the water twice, I came up with 6 browns and 1 cut bow, one 10” and the rest 6”-8”, so nothing big caught nor seen. A small streamer and a dry Royal Coachman tight up against the bank seemed to work. It looks like it should support high numbers and larger fish, so I suspect that variable controlled outlet flow leads to variable success here. I will come back and try it again.
