Dark and Light GeesePlatte Flats is a DIY waterfowl hunting property located just east of the town of Julesburg, CO. It is a 110-acre Millet field that will be changing over to winter wheat after the start of the season. This area of Colorado is notorious for opportunities at both light and dark geese, as well as possible field ducks. This property holds a 6-man permanent pit, designed to perfection. Hunters will need to bring their own chairs or buckets for sitting. Parking on this property will be across the road in the mowed grass area. All hunters at this location must abide by all state of Colorado regulations, including but not limited to, licensing, limits, and method of take. SPEEDING OVER 15mph ON PRIVATE ROADS WILL RESULT IN FINES.
Platte Flats offers some excellent waterfowl hunting opportunities. This property is planted in Millet and Winter Wheat for 2024/25, and has a pit blind located in a highly trafficked area for waterfowl. During season, you are likely to run into both light and dark geese as well as the occasional duck. Because this property is only a short walk from the edge of the river, waterfowl will utilize this property more than most. Look for birds headed to ag in the daytime to feed and retreat to riverside during the early morning and evening hours.
1-Day Hunt
Provided pit blinds are built at the beginning of the season. Hunters are encouraged to spend a few minutes brushing in the blinds to keep them in quality condition and keep them well hidden from birds.
Reservation fees are processed at the time of booking and are non-refundable. All outdoorsman fees will process automatically, 48 hours prior to the hunt.
Cancellations must be made 48 hours or more prior to the adventure. Cancellations made within 48 hours will be subject to partial or full outdoorsman fee charges.
If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.
You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.

Hunted this field list season when it was corn and it was really good, tried again this season and it was sun flowers. Not a good tall stocks and with corn on the area they wanted nothing to do with us. The stickers and goat heads were pretty bad around the pit, would hunt again if it’s corn.

The pit is very well built and placed. Could watch birds pickup off the river and fly right to our field. As a guy who loves to watch birds work this was awesome for my because you never lost sight of the birds as they came into our spread.
