Tomcat Turkey Ranch is a beautiful mountain DIY turkey hunting property located outside of Buena Vista, Colorado. It includes 160 acres of huntable ground covered in pines and aspens, and backs directly up to national forest to the west and BLM to the south, which can be seen on the Infinite Outdoors mobile app! This property also has lodging availability, which the landowner requests be booked through another platform. Visit vrbo.com/34698 to check lodging availability prior to booking your hunt. This property is found in GMU 481, which is an OTC unit for spring turkey season. The reservation fee is non-refundable, and the outdoorsman fee will process 48 hours prior to your arrival on the property. This is a working cattle ranch; do not approach or bother the cattle and close all gates. Game and habitat information

This mountainous property near Buena Vista CO is ideal habitat for Merriams. The surrounding ponderosa and aspen forest mixed in with pocket meadows provide ideal habitat for Merriam turkeys. As the spring progresses and these turkeys move higher into the mountains look for this property to have a higher population of turkeys.

I had the opportunity to hunt at Tomcat Turkey Ranch and wanted to share a fair and honest experience. The property itself is absolutely beautiful, with plenty of wildlife including elk, deer, pronghorn, and turkeys. It’s clear this is a well-managed area with strong habitat and good potential for hunting. Unfortunately, during the day of our hunt, there didn’t appear to be any turkeys on the property. We did see signs that they had been present recently, so it may have just been timing and weather conditions that caused them to move out. One additional note for future hunters—while it’s expected in Colorado, the tick presence was significant. We found close to a dozen Rocky Mountain ticks on us and our gear after returning to camp, and I spent quite a bit of time checking everything thoroughly before settling in for the night. Overall, it’s a scenic property with strong wildlife potential, but our experience was impacted by the lack of turkeys that day and the heavy tick activity.

We really appreciate the kind words about the habitat and wildlife diversity on the property, and we're glad the scenery made an impression. Turkeys can be unpredictable, especially later in the season when pressure and weather shift their patterns. The signs you noted are encouraging, and we hope you get another crack at them. On the ticks, you're right that it goes with the territory in Colorado, but 2026 has been a particularly rough year across much of the West. Warmer winters and wet springs have tick populations running higher than usual just about everywhere. We always recommend hunters come prepared with permethrin-treated gear and do thorough checks, but we know that only goes so far when numbers are this high.

Some good sign on property. Wind was just much to deal with when I hunted along with rain and snow . It’s major elevation change so be prepared for that if your mobility is limited and or out of shape like myself haha. Nice place though beautiful land. Lots of elk spotted there.

Harvest Reports

After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties - and continue to put conservation at the forefront - we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year's harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country.

Payment Process

Reservation fees are due at the time of booking, and are non-refundable. 100% of the outdoorsman fee will process 7 full days prior to the adventure start date.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made outside of the 7-day payment policy window. Any cancellations made within the 7 day window may be subject to full or partial changes. The IO team will work with you to reschedule, if applicable.

Availability

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released.

Trespassing

You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.
