Dark GeeseNotes from the landowner
Located a few miles northwest of Wellington Colorado, Park Creek #14 is an almost 150-acre property with tons of quality opportunities. Park Creek #14 sits on an agricultural field on the front range of Colorado, an area well-known for its geese populations. This particular field is planted with corn and will include a 6-man pit that will be dug every year. This property offers plenty of food for passing geese, especially in passing from Park Creek Reservoir, which is just two miles west, and Rawhide Reservoir, just under four miles to the east. This is a DIY property, and all hunters are expected to bring their own gear and equipment, which includes but is not limited to hunting wear and a seat for the pit, as there are none in it to begin with. All hunters must be IO members to participate in the hunt and must abide by all Colorado Parks and Wildlife rules and regulations for the taking of geese.
Game and habitat information
Geese are known to prefer large bodies of water, making the presence of Rawhide and Park Creek reservoirs a few miles from the corn field a pivotal factor in attracting them to Park Creek #14. Reservoirs provide a reliable source of safety and roost, which not only aids in geese making it through the winter, but also serves as a reason for geese to stay in an area longer throughout the year. Among other food sources, corn also plays a crucial role in enticing geese to stick around in a location. Due to the energy-rich food source, birds are able to stay healthy and warm, even as the temperatures plumet. Hunters can expect to have great luck in the early season as unpressured birds make northern Colorado their home but should also not shy away from a late season hunt since open water will hold high numbers all year.
