461This is a DIY bear hunting property in GMU 461. Ragsdale Ranch is located near Pine Junction, Colorado, just off the North Fork of the South Platte River. This property caters to many types of game, including but not limited to, turkey, deer, elk, and the mighty black bear. Because of the abundant food sources, as well as several local sources of water, bears make a habit out of inhabiting this property. Ragsdale Ranch is just over 1,000 acres in size and caters to all types of hunters. Several two-tracks traverse throughout the property, making it easy to get from the bottom of the mountain to the top via vehicle, 4-wheeler, or even on foot. As this is a DIY hunt, hunters will be expected to provide all of their own equipment, as well as ensure they have the correct licensing required.
Ragsdale Ranch is a true treasure, comprised of beautiful mountainous terrain. This property offers up access to private land in a game management unit that barely has any public access (461); meaning this access is extremely coveted. Habitat on Ragsdale Ranch varies, from thick forested areas, rocky outcroppings, and open parks. This ranch is used for logging purposes during the summer, which creates open spaces perfect for catching movement throughout the day. Several local water sources such as springs, small water holes, and the South Platte River bring game of all types to this property, including bear. Black bears are the only species of bear found here, but several different color phased bears have been seen throughout the years. With multiple sources of food and water, good cover and denning locations, Ragsdale Ranch is an ideal habitat to support healthy bears.
