Camping, River, Trailer Access, Dogs Allowed, Guides AllowedLocated near Anaconda MT, the Clark Fork River Headwaters property offers 1.75 miles of low pressure river frontage just one mile below the dam—the farthest upstream public access point on this stretch of the Clark Fork. Vehicle access is available on both sides of the river, and the open grasslands and gently sloping banks provide easy casting and movement for anglers of all skill levels. While the location is remote, it is well-maintained and user-friendly. An elk fence surrounds portions of the river to preserve habitat, and moose are occasionally spotted in the area. A bull paddock is present on the property, but livestock are securely fenced and do not have access to the river. Please note: dogs must remain under control at all times and are not permitted to chase livestock.
Last year this property underwent a significant reclamation and stream improvement effort. As the land settles into its natural rhythm we ask for patience as we learn how this fishery is evolving.
Although the landowner will typically get your booking approved within a few hours, please allow up to 1 business day for booking confirmations.
The Clark Fork River Headwaters is a technical and rewarding fishery for anglers willing to put in the effort. This upper stretch of river is narrower—roughly 10 yards wide—and best fished by targeting deeper holes and riffles that flow into oxygen-rich pools. While the fish density here is lower than other sections of the Clark Fork, the size and quality of the fish more than make up for it. Brown trout over 24 inches have been landed in this stretch, along with Rainbow Trout, Westslope Cutthroat, Whitefish, Longnose Suckers, and the occasional Bull Trout or Pikeminnow. Small nymphs in the #18–#20 range—especially midges, baetis, and mayfly imitations—are consistent producers throughout the year. Seasonal hatches include grasshoppers, craneflies, drakes, stoneflies, and caddis, with streamer fishing being particularly effective during overcast spring and fall days. This is not a numbers fishery, but a place to test your skills and possibly land a true trophy trout in a remote and pristine setting.
Please note, Under the Montana Stream Access Law, the public may use rivers and streams for recreational purposes up to the ordinary high-water mark. Although unlikely, you could potentially see other anglers while on this property.

Outstanding. Some of the best restoration work I have ever seen. Definitely a new spot. I will be using this company a lot. As for the fishing Fire 🔥 is all I can say. Dry fly small fish, streamers and nymphs strap in my boy. We did interact with a 24 inch brown. Landed some 20 plus inch fish.

So glad we booked this. River was beautiful and the improvements were notable - reinforcements to the banks, wildflowers, etc made it very picturesque. Some good fish to be found as well. Better water upstream from the bridge than down but overall great spot. The brush can be think in parts - cutting some trails along the bank could make this section even better.

If you're looking to catch a lot of fish this is not the place. However, there are some very large browns lurking in a few of the tailouts of the deeper pools. While I only moved a handful of fish, I caught my personal best brown trout on a leech streamer...26 in! I also landed another 24-incher and had several other good chases. They've done a tremendous amount to work on stream improvement and over the years it will only get better. There are a few places that are tough to land fish but it was worth doing the work for large trout. Signage was perfect and access was quite easy. I will definitely go back again next time I'm in the area.
