Bull ElkLaramie Peak Ranch is a DIY elk hunting property located in hunting area 7, just west of Wheatland, WY. Unit 7 is the most prestigious elk hunting area in the state of Wyoming, and this property comes with access to over 4,000 acres. There are large numbers of elk to be found in the area for all seasons. This property consists of mountainous terrain, with fresh burn creating lots of new foliage for game. A few water sources, loads of room to roam, and extremely limited hunting pressure make this property a must have for the upcoming hunting season. There is a decently maintained road that will take you through the property; use of vehicles is permitted, UTVs are preferred but stick to the existing roads and two-tracks. Hunts on this property will be sold in 5-day stints, the day you book will automatically be valid for the following four as well. Scouting options may be available, please reach out to IO to discuss those options. There will also be group discounts! Hunt with your friends and save money. Warning: This is an operating cattle ranch and is subject to ranching operations at any time. Hunters: please be prepared to return the landowner coupon on your license to this landowner. Check the rules and regs section upon booking to learn where to send the coupon.
Laramie Peak Ranch is located right in the heart of Unit 7. The Elk are here for a reason, this region in Wyoming is renown for the abundance and diversity of productive habitat and its massive bulls. Elk in particular, utilize the understory in both forested and mountain shrub habitats. Elk will target these areas due to the abundance of broad leaf plants "forbs" for short. Ponderosa Pine forests and large Aspen groves on the ranch are excellent places to target Elk due to the abundance of understory vegetation and screening cover that they offer. Another tactic is to look for recently disturbed areas such as burns, beetle kill, flooding, etc. After disturbance, the plant species that grow after an event like this is exactly what elk target, Broad leaf plants "forbs". Elk in this scenario will utilize mature forested areas for cover and move into these disturbed areas for food in early morning and evenings for a feast. Pressure from the public land will also push elk to utilize this property. Hunters must be strategic in their approach, use the land to your advantage, lots of glassing, watch the wind, and position yourself with patience to capitalize on the right opportunity. That being said, Laramie Peak Ranch is a must for your next Elk hunting adventure.
After your hunt, you will be sent an automated Harvest Report. To assist Infinite Outdoors in maintaining the quality of properties - and continue to put conservation at the forefront - we require that the harvest report be completely filled out and returned. Failure to fill out the harvest report within 2 weeks of the hunt taking place will result in a $25 fine. If you are unsuccessful in filling your tag, Infinite Outdoors still needs to have that information provided to them. This is how we will make changes to future year's harvest quotas and continue to be the most well managed access and conservation platform in the country.
If you are successful in harvesting an animal on this property, as a request of the landowners you must send in the Landowner Coupon that is attached to your big game license. Any hunter who successfully fills their tag but fails to return the landowner coupon will receive a $25 fine. This will be issued to the landowner in lieu of the money they would have received from the state through the landowner coupon program. The Harvest Report (noted above) is how you will notify Infinite Outdoors of your hunt results. Unsuccessful hunters are not required to return a coupon. The additional income driven through landowner coupons is a great way to continue incentivizing landowners to allow access to their land - we ask for your help in this endeavor, to keep quality access available at the touch of a button. Upon successful harvest, please send your landowner coupon to: PO Drawer 2360, Casper WY 82602.
