Notes from the landowner

Stratton Pheasant Lands is a compilation of over 8,000 acres, spread throughout Eastern Colorado. This is the equivalent to 12 full square miles of land! This property spans north to south, starting well north of Vona and heads south, clear across I-70 south of Stratton. These parcels of land will vary, and will consist of either CRP fields, ditch rows, and rotating crops. Rotated crops means that some years it will be corn, or wheat, or another form of agricultural use, and some years will be a rest year. This will be DIY wild bird hunting and will require high effort in order to be successful. A maximum of 3 parties will be allowed on this property in a single day, and no more than 4 hunters per group.

Game and habitat information

This area of eastern Colorado holds a healthy amount of wild pheasants. Over the years lots of eastern Colorado has seen a fluctuation in the pheasant population but now holds at a healthy number making this a great area to hunt birds. Due to the habitat of much of this area, birds are able to find cover in trees, thickly foliated ravines, and CRP fields. There is also great food and water supply through the significant agriculture in the area creating great properties to find pheasants.

SPEEDING

Drivers should stay under 15 MPH on private roads. Violators will be subject to fines starting at $100

License

All hunters must possess a small game hunting license: https://cpw.state.co.us/thingstodo/Pages/SmallGame.aspx

Availability

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged from contacting Infinite Outdoors. Some landowners have not opened their land for reservations yet. The other reason properties might be unavailable is because we work directly with our landowners and hunts are booked by quota set by our biologist for the current year. That being said, we are willing, and able in most cases, to pre-book you for next season. OR book you in place of someone else canceling their reservation.

Trespassing

You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.

Wheat stubble is terrible to hunt, too open and if you can see them, they see you . Me and my 2 dogs, day 1, walked about 8 miles and did not see one single bird and we hunted hard.

Not good. Cover is thin. Wheat stubble is knocked down by snow. Saw two hens. Not worth the money. Hit walk in on the way home and got two roosters.

Found parcel with cover and OMG found birds, funny how that works! Acres and acres of cut corn, wheat stubble and winter wheat may provide food but birds need a place to roost, empty their crops and feel safe from the many hawks patrolling the empty acres.
