Shults Main Ranch East- Turkey

East Ranch is a DIY turkey hunting property located west of Meeker, Colorado in GMU 22, which is an OTC unit for turkey tags in Colorado. This property is over 200 acres large and boasts a diverse habitat for roaming turkeys to utilize. On this property hunters are going to find Merriam turkeys, which are a species of turkey that love to travel and roam to every corner of their home range. This property offers them the ability to do what they love and thrive throughout the year. Along with ample opportunity on private land, this property also provides easy access to over a million acres of BLM, which is otherwise extremely difficult to access for the general public. Located along the White River, East Ranch is part of a working cattle operation and is subject to ranching activities at any time. Hunters will need to be aware of any cattle nearby and sure of their target. All hunters accessing this property will need valid CO turkey licenses, and all other equipment necessary for a DIY hunt. Also, please keep in mind that access to this property is done through a separate private ranch, and all driving must be done in a responsible, reasonable speed. Upon accessing this property, allow yourself about 10 extra minutes for the extended drive on a private road. 4WD vehicles, or ATVs are recommended for accessing this property.

East Ranch is home to the largely sought after Merriam Turkey. On this property hunters will find ideal habitat that allows turkeys to thrive in this area all year round. The nearby White River provides large cotton woods perfect for roosting birds, as well as an active bug life which turkeys will feed on. As you move south on the property, the elevation rises, and terrain turns into the high desert covered in pinion pines, oak brush and sage. There is also a buried pipeline on the southern section of this property, up on the mesa, that has created a large 'greenbelt' that is all but hidden from view from the highway. Historically, turkeys love to mill around on the open grass area here and can be found picking bugs and seeds on their way up the hill. Hunters here will be hunting relatively unpressured birds and may find success using a decoy setup.

1-Day Hunt

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released. All adventures can only be booked a maximum of 90 days in advance.

You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.

Unless otherwise posted, all speed limits on the ranch or surrounding roads is 10MPH. Any violators will be fined.
