Shults Main Ranch West- Turkey

West Ranch is a DIY turkey hunting property located just west of Meeker, CO on the White River. This property falls in GMU 22, which is an OTC unit in Colorado for turkey licenses. Comprised of just over 640 acres of ideal habitat, this beautiful piece of land boasts a healthy population of merriam turkeys. Not only does West Camp provide ample opportunity on private land, but it also borders an SWA, and over a million acres of BLM. With several access points available, hunters may approach their game from several angles, providing the best and least restrictive opportunity for success. Hunters should keep in mind that this is a working cattle operation and is subject to ranching activities at any time. Be mindful of any cattle nearby as you are hunting and be sure of your target. All hunters will need a Colorado OTC turkey license and must bring all equipment necessary for a DIY hunt. No blinds are provided for you, so please be sure to arrive early enough to brush yourself in if you choose to hunt stationary.

West Ranch is home to the classic Merriam Turkey. On this property hunters will find ideal habitat that allows turkeys to thrive in this area all year round. The nearby White River provides large cotton woods perfect for roosting birds, as well as an active bug life which turkeys will feed on. West Ranch also has two fields that are planted in hay/alfalfa mix, which turkeys enjoy for the bugs it produces and the cover it provides for poults. Moving south on the property, elevation rises, and terrain turns into the high desert covered in pinion pines, oak brush and sage. Historically, birds in this area will pitch down from roost and mill around on the river bottom before heading up the hill into the thicker cover provided by the vegetation. Hunters here will be hunting relatively unpressured birds and may find success using a decoy setup.

1-Day Hunt

If there is a lapse in availability, please do not be discouraged to reach out to IO. All calendars are set and managed by landowners, and unavailability is set by them. However, IO is willing to reach out on your behalf, to check on available dates. Other reasons for unavailable dates include biologist recommended hunter/harvest quotas that landowners implement, as well as state season dates not being released. All adventures can only be booked a maximum of 90 days in advance.

You are not legally allowed to access the property, for any adventure, prior to your selected access day. If you try to access the property at all before your selected date(s), without prior approval from IO, you will be subject to trespassing and punishments therein.

Unless otherwise posted, all speed limits on the ranch or surrounding roads is 10MPH. Any violators will be fined.
